The alternative was Zena - 'Let's Get This Party Started', but it's mondo derivative, vacuous shit.

Right now I'm totally obsessed with The Neptunes' percussion/drum sound, in tracks like:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKjii7RE7PQ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EDIg35QnI8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEzWZYjUu3Y
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gul0ZDtnGzI
can someone point me towards some Non-Neps tracks with a similar sound?

ha weird how the first thing popping into my head w/ that twista was uk funky
but i think its just the bongos
― arachno-misogynist (D-40), Saturday, 18 June 2011 01:37 (twelve years ago) link
the first 3 were from that mid period after Justified when they got more into live drum sounds and looping Pharrell playing drums, i was never really into that stuff but there's definitely a lot of it... "Diddy" is more like classic early hit parade drum machine Neptunes imo
― some dude, Saturday, 18 June 2011 01:37 (twelve years ago) link
yeah im def hearing diff feels from a few of these
like the money maker drums arent far from grinding, really
― arachno-misogynist (D-40), Saturday, 18 June 2011 01:38 (twelve years ago) link
it was funny when Pharrell went on and on about "Give It Up" being a Baltimore club homage but there was just a vague similarity in the tempo and hook but the production was miles away

my fav of this Neptunes style is probably Twista's "Lavish"
this was another neptunes mid period minimalist drums jointhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHxoEKoM1Ew
yeah it prob is just the bongos, but I'm getting a sort of latin, funky vibe from the percussion in these tracks. here's another one:

oh yeah i liked that track
trying to remember the last Neptunes track i really liked, maybe Clipse "I'm Good"? you know what was amazingly awful was the score for Despicable Me, almost ruined the movie for me.
― some dude, Saturday, 18 June 2011 02:44 (twelve years ago) link
wow, Neptunes produced that terrible T.I./Chris Brown joint last year? i had no idea

a bunch of the songs on tyler, the creator's album wolf start with the pharrell four count. "jamba" is prob the one that sounds most like it could be a hell hath no fury kind of track.
