Certain people you keep seeing all the time (on gigs or demonstrations or festivals, in cinemas or pubs, at the campus, etc), but don't actually know them.

Does anyone really know Beatle Bob?

I met Beatle Bob in 1997 at a music conference in St. Louis, WTF kind of person is he supposed to be haha.

In a city of this size the scenes are pretty small, so often it happens these people happen to be friends of friends, which is how I finally get to speak to them. But occasionally I just go and talk to them, even though it can be kinda awkward, especially since, if they're girls, "I've seen you somewhere" can sound like a bad pick-up line.

There's this one girl I've had a casual long-distance crush for at least five years; she's actually been to my flat while I wasn't there, and later on she was living right next to me, and we also met at parties, but even though she seems really nice it feels like we've destined to bump to each other maybe once a year and exchange a few words, and no more.

there are 2000 people on my campus, and i've been here 3 years, so that's about half the people i see on a daily basis by this point. if i see someone at 2 events in a week, or in class and at some kind of event, then it's odd not to start a conversation; this means there are a lot of people i've met but don't really remember.

Hahaha...weird coincidence...I was *just* thinking about Beatle Bob like ten minutes ago, I swear! (My thought stream was - "Is there any way a person can make money by being a scenester?" to "Does Beatle Bob have a day job?")

I saw him at like every other indie rock show in the STL in 2000...weird thing was, sometimes there were *other* middle-aged guys in suits up there, dancing with him! WTF?! Coattail-riding? And for what?

i meant that there is a relatively tiny number of people i might possibly pass by on a daily basis, and i have been passing by many of them on a daily basis for a couple of years. so the number of people i keep seeing all the time is large.

Oh, I thought you could somehow calculate how many of the 2000 people on the campus you've met based on the amount of years you've been there.

sixteen years pass...

it makes sense that several of the posts in this thread are about Beatle Bob. some very sad news - he announced today he has lou gehrig's disease (ALS), and won't be dancing tonight. other than 85 days that he missed during the pandemic, somehow he attended a show EVERY NIGHT for 9,349 days straight, wearing a beatles mop-top wig and dancing. he was/is such a local legend that i first heard of him back in high school, when his streak was only 5 years or so long and i didn't even live in st louis. he is one of the most legendary local legends i have ever heard of.
