Your weekly burrito consumption

Haha, I was drunk one night and so I went to Flash Taco, and was chowing down on my burrito when it occurred to me that the tortilla was a little different this time -- a little flakier, almost like phyllo. I was actually enjoying it until I looked down and realized I'd eaten half of the paper wrapper.

Flash Taco = Damen/North/Milwaukee.

Maybe someday I'll get back into them, but I'm on a big tamale trip right now and burritos seems bland and hippy now.

But on the upside, think of the extra fiber you got!

I actually used to have one a week, but I'm on a health kick and haven't had any for a bout a month now.

tacos are usually smaller, more numerous, and not as many kinds of ingredients(no rice, for example).

things to avoid: refried beans, cheese, sour cream, guacamole (although it has "good" fat), and any other dairy based sauces. Substitute whole beans and/or rice.

chicken, especially grilled is much better than any red meat or pork.

Sometimes burritos are just too huge too.

this is exactly the contents of my homemade burritos! (well except it's whole avocado, not guac)

oh yeah and as far as i can tell the mexicans around here (60 miles north of the mexican border) like burritos too and seem to have no problem with them being "gringo" food.

yeah, same in SF. In fact, all the (primarily Central American) staff from Chipotle are to be found eating in the little taqueria on 2nd at lunch!

El Farolito or Cancun (Berkeley). I've heard people swear by Cactus, but I've never been.

i think the chipotle sauce had a splash of heavy cream in it and i've been avoiding that lately

I feel like we need ILX poster "the burrito that defined a generation" to weigh in here, perhaps they are offended by the suggestion that their only value is delicious sustenance when in fact they can sometimes define an entire generation.

the best california burritos are pretty good, but I think I like regular rice and bean burritos (with choice of meat and cheese) better

my nearest neighborhood shop makes a Costeño (grilled tilapia, mushrooms, cabbage, poblanos, corn, and sour cream) and I've been liking that lately when I feel like getting out of my typical California or Carne Asada comfort zone, cause I'm a basic bro who needs to bureet down on the reg

btw, like all mariscos burritos, the Costeño comes with a lime wedge wrapped up within the wrapper, which is always cute af

and the wrapper should always be yellow. some posers down the street wrap theirs in this bullshit blue & white checker pattern wrapper, like what the hell is this a friggin Rally's? go yellow or go home

Everyone has a different favorite and mine keeps changing. My current preference is for carnitas, refried beans, rice, lots of cheese, and tomatillo salsa, supplemented with pickled jalapeno slices and extra green salsa

I made my own roasted tomatillo salsa last week, it was so good that I ate it up right away, will have to make it again

kind of annoying when you try a new place and your burrito comes with sauce and cheese all over the outside instead of wrapped up in foil so you can eat it with your hands
