DJ Spinderella took to Instagram on Thursday night to announce her departure from the famed hip-hop group Salt -N-Pepa.

According to Spinderella, she received a “termination email” earlier this year that excluded her from performances with the group.

She thought the group members would address her departure publicly, but she was forced to come forward since they remained silent. “It was my expectation, after making that decision, that they would also take responsibility for sharing the news with the public and other affected parties. It has been months now without mention,” the acclaimed DJ said.

Despite her leaving the group, Spinderella said she has a slew of upcoming opportunities in the works. “Please know that you will have the opportunity to see me this summer in many other projects and activities I’ll be participating in and I look forward to seeing you all then.”

News of the veteran’s DJ’s departure from Salt-N-Pepa in January comes as more of a surprise now because last month, it was announced she would be starring alongside the group and SWV for BET’s new Ladies Night reality series.

Pretty sad, though I dunno how active they have been in general since their reunion? Has anyone seen the new BET reality show mentioned in the article, I think it started last week? Apparently it stars both SNP and En Vogue, sounds kinda interesting.

Also, I dunno if this controversial opinion or not, but I've been listening to a lot of Salt-N-Pepa in the last couple of years, and I've become more and more convinced Blacks' Magic is THE best rap album of the nineties... It seems to me that album, as well as SNP's output in general, has been unfairly ignored in the rap canon because they were women, and because they had pop hits. But it's not like they were MC Hammer or anything, they did have (do have) proper rapping skills as well, and their records have pretty awesome hip hop beats besides the catchy hooks. The title track of Blacks' Magic alone is showcase of everything that was great about them:

Does this mean the previous Spinderella that they fired is allowed to work under that name again?
