nope - setting up OtherOS partitions off 10 gigs for Linux and leaves the rest for PS3. you'll have to format your hard drive to set it up, though you can just back up/restore the contents first. oh and apparently this software is set to automatically boot when you load OtherOS so you don't have to go digging out a USB keyboard to enter shell commands and such.

the downside is that if the rumors are true and Sony's about to patch out OtherOS in a future firmware update (it's the cornerstone of the Geohot hack after all) all of your work will be for nothing.

Excitebike + Trials HD = Joe Danger... looks promising and fun (definitely coming to PSN based on icons in the trailer, but maybe other systems too?)

Official statement from Sony:

"As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.

"We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.

"Errors include:
The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following message appears on the screen; "An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)".
When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; "Failed to install trophies. Please exit your game."
When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the Internet, the following message appears on the screen; "The current date and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)"
Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the PlayStation Store before the expiration date.
"We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

"As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused."

I got these two:

When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following message appears on the screen; "An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)".
When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; "Failed to install trophies. Please exit your game."

"failed to install trophies"

Tracer Hand, Monday, 8 March 2010 13:39 (fourteen years ago) link

“We are still developing Bumpy Trot 2,” an Irem rep confirmed to them. “We are now trying to release it in Japan as soon as we can.” When further questioned as to whether there were plans for a western release, Irem responded that no plans for a release outside of Japan had been decided upon yet. Keep your eyes on the game’s website, just in case…although, it hasn’t been updated in ages.

Tracer, don't you normally get that message when the online connection has failed?

bracken free ditch (Ste), Monday, 8 March 2010 22:13 (fourteen years ago) link

i don't have a PS3. i am just lolling at the idea of "installing trophies" or failing to - though my general incomprehension of the entire concept of trophies is well documented in this bailiwick

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 10 March 2010 01:47 (fourteen years ago) link

i released bumpy trot in Canada the other day after I had that corn burrito

antexit, Wednesday, 10 March 2010 02:37 (fourteen years ago) link

the PS3 wasn't designed with trophies in mind, and it can only collect them together when you aren't playing any.

no takes on move and its movelware?

carl gustav (cozen), Monday, 15 March 2010 19:12 (fourteen years ago) link

My take... obviously the games they showed didn't look very compelling (except for maybe the ping pong game). I imagine more interesting games will be revealed further down the line. The devices themselves looked okay, but the cost seems prohibitive. Having to buy a camera, two of the main controllers (possibly four) and at least one of the sub controllers (possibly two)... and that looks like more money than a stand alone ps3!?! You're going to need a few REALLY impressive game experiences to get me even interested - not just some casual shovelware and Wii HD clones (I assume there will be PES with Wii controls and Grand Slam Tennis, which would at least be a start). I've also heard, like Wii motion plus, the controls tend to get out of sync. If that's true, definite pass.

I do have a growing feeling both Move and Natal are going to basically flop.

Its a bunch of lemmings running off a cliff.

They need to integrate twitter and 3D to make it truly cutting edge.
