Franny's was very good, btw. I was in a bit of a rush, so I just got pizza, but it did not disappoint. I had the buffalo mozzarella, ricotta, garlic, oregano, and hot peppers -- really nice balance between the sweet creaminess of the ricotta and the kick of the peppers. And the crust was thin but nicely doughy -- I've been to other Neapolitan places where it's too flimsy, so this was appreciated.

maybe not too exciting, but could be good for simple dishes, prices more reasonable than roman's.

also ft greene's Kaz A Nou is wonderful

janice (surm), Wednesday, 21 July 2010 13:39 (thirteen years ago) link

i went and i got that lemon parmesan dish. simple, delicious, executed very well. also got a fennel salad, i think. salad was actually too big. good portions for the price.

mizzell, Wednesday, 21 July 2010 14:02 (thirteen years ago) link

janice (surm), Wednesday, 21 July 2010 14:07 (thirteen years ago) link

janice (surm), Wednesday, 21 July 2010 14:16 (thirteen years ago) link

Loved it. Got the "fried chicken". Which isn't battered and fried chicken, totally different. Been twice. Tiny place but really awesome.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 21 July 2010 15:08 (thirteen years ago) link

dmr, Wednesday, 21 July 2010 15:53 (thirteen years ago) link

o and dmr i tried James. really nice!

janice (surm), Wednesday, 21 July 2010 15:58 (thirteen years ago) link

don't remember if A Bistro is a/c, but it's probably pricey. It's a fancy little reservation type place, I think.

But worth it, our meals were pretty great!

dan selzer, Wednesday, 21 July 2010 16:21 (thirteen years ago) link

you go to the crepe place yet dan?

iatee, Wednesday, 21 July 2010 16:23 (thirteen years ago) link

No, we haven't. Any good?

Saw Siestama wrote about the Brazillian/Tibetan fusion place around the corner but it still looks empty. We went once and it was really good, but a bit pricey for the hood.

Went back to Richmond Hill last night to explore trinidadian food, got some doubles then went looking for another place but everything was closing by 8:30/9 for some reason.

I had a really good meal at ofrenda last week, like my first taste of 'real real' mexican food

dyao, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 13:35 (thirteen years ago) link

No, we haven't. Any good?

yeah! I mean they're a bit expensive for the neighborhood, but the woman who makes them def knows what she's doing. very nice people too.

iatee, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 13:42 (thirteen years ago) link

haha I didn't see that you wrote 'pricey for the hood' before I wrote that - so easy to get that mindset here

iatee, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 13:43 (thirteen years ago) link

also been meaning to try that new indian place on skillman

iatee, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 13:45 (thirteen years ago) link

gotten bad reviews on Chowhound. People prefer Curry Point, which is a more homey-pakistani/bangladeshi place down on Greenpoint Ave below Queens blvd. The kind of place like there used to be hundreds of in Jackson Heights, but not so much here.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:07 (thirteen years ago) link

never been to that one, but we pretty rarely go south of queens blvd for a meal. I know you're not a fan, but we are usually pretty content w/ masala (helps that it's 20 seconds away).

iatee, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:14 (thirteen years ago) link

i ate at great n.y. noodletown this weekend for the first time and it was ________so good___________

what's good and not-pricey for dinner around 9th Ave in 40s or 50s these days?

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 19:26 (thirteen years ago) link

Wondee Siam (#1, on the east side of 9th -- there's a #2 across the street). Order from the 'secret menu' that's on the table.

thx

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 19:46 (thirteen years ago) link

Wondee Siam is good. I like Island Burgers & Shakes at 51st and 9th. There's also a pretty good little Cuban place around there but I can't remember the name.

dmr, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 19:57 (thirteen years ago) link

still haven't been to Kaz a Nou yet.

not feeling that Cubana Cafe on Flatbush. Cuban sandwich sucked
