i really think that, like my birdman junya thread, polls that start, close, and have their 24-hour warning bump at 2am are just not going to have high visibility

do they? i dunno i thought they closed at the same time they opened. 7pm eastern is somewhat off-peak hours anyway!

plus poll threads kind of suck. i can't think of too many ones i've seen that led to interesting discussions.

yeah i mean i'm not surprised that not much came of this thread, but idk how else to start a thread about a 5 year old album w/o putting some sort of spin on it

& tbh, a lot of my favorite threads on ilm are nerdy poll threads like the one about yung joc's r&b guest verses or w/e

yeah for me polls are maybe not a consistently effective conversation-starter but almost always work better than starting a new thread or reviving an old one with some "hay can we talk about this" ice-breaking

seriously i'm not trying to pick on the newbie but i'm trying to get your frame of reference here, are we talking about the 2 months or whatever that you've been posting or what?

obviously. more like month and a half, and more like based on less than that, like the last ten polls or so i read, most of which were on the page when i posted, one was the we are the world thing that there was already a lively thread about, another was enlivened by lex fearlessly throwing down youtubes excluded from the RA decade trax, which would prob be a carcrash if everyone did it, and the rest were on the level of ppl saying oh hey we all listened to this record. which isn't worthless, it passes the time, and prob puts it in the head of ppl who may listen to it one day. but it's enough to offer an opinion that poll threads tend towards dull, esp. with my time here taken as a given, and with qualifiers indicating this built into the post itself, without fools acting like it's some kind of personal attack, or i'm getting uppity or some shit. maybe i just expect dudes who post to the same threads as me to be cool with whatever, idk. "seriously how long you been here" was a moronic response to a dude saying "as far as i've seen".

idk what it says that the best poll threads i've been on recently have been the tori amos ones (tim f, surm, tipsy m and many others all on fire)

it's just one listen so I can't say anything super well-informed but I like the singles more than the non-singles (esp. "Caught Up"). On this poll I'd have voted for "Bad Girl" over "Throwback". I'm surprised the album is as laid-back as it is; from the singles I figured there would be more bangers. I'll need to listen again late at night next time.

aight aight aight chill. all i was saying was that even with the 'as far as i've seen' caveat i thought you were making a blanket statement that was neither correct nor worth even stating but w/e it's all good.

anyway the first time i really saw you post was on my "BedRock" poll thread, which was a CLASSIC, so i mainly defensively felt like you were hating on fun threads like that!

"Throwback" and "That's What It's Made For" charted. Did "singles" here mean singles in the physical sense?

yes...there were 5 official singles (including "My Boo" from the deluxe version). half this album was widely heard outside the album in one sense or another anyway, "Confessions 1" in the "2" video, heard "Bad Girl" on the radio a lot, etc.

an unexpected thrill to hear "That's What It's Made For" on the adult R&B station this a.m.
