are there any companies that make decent-looking clothes without stupid little logos on them? please?

uniqlo (except that front page makes it look awful!)

and inevitably, hennes and mauritz

as for the preppy look, well, i have been trying to buy cotton v neck jumpers for about 8 years now and am relieved that they are now around in numbers, i just wish i could have bought them when i was at school. there was no mention of them being "preppy" in the uk (maybe there isnt now), they were apparently just deeply unfashionable. but i loe them! i think this preppy look is pretty cool. it seems that peoples ire is mainly directed towards (if this isnt too unkind) YOUNG (RICH?) CONFIDENT people looking GOOD in clothes, rather than the trend itself.

ok i think maybe im just projecting my own resentment onto the rest of ILX. i sort of feel scorn for carefully made up looking kids with all this preppy attire, but i think im more jealous of them than actually thinking their clothes are stupid. although i dont really think the popped collar thing is cool at all. which is the whole point of this thread so, duh.

so wait, that pink polo i picked up at the thrift store like 4 yrs ago is now back in fashion? Can I casually wear it to the movies or only in more fashionable locales? I am fashion disabled and my wife's advice is untrustworthy because she likes to giggle at me in public.

I just bought it cuz it was le tigre.

How about the red OP one with the swath of white/black/green/orange/yellow across the top? Is that ok?

Ive got sh1t loads of polos, but my favourite ones are the navy and white ones from tescos which i think cost £3-4.
The cotton is soft and they come through the wash still lookin gr8.
I often wear them to work.
btw search the penguin lamsbwool vnecks.

I have a whole bunch of polo shirts (including a couple of Lacostes) and I put the collar up on all of them.

But I can get away with this 'cos I'm British, gorgeous and superfly.

Do, Ned! We shall honour the fire and push them all into the Yarra.

Yay! I wanna see the Yarra Valley and all that so bad. What a wunnerful city. :-)

Do you get bonus points & more lovin' if you rock the upturned collar w/ your dad's Members Only jacket?

cozen: h & m got a decent lot in different colours a few months ago, at least. might have been in the winter seasons stuff. he trick is to pick up lots when they appear (i bought 6 in a relatively short period of time), before they change the bloody styles and forget them. v neck cotton jumpers should be a basic item, clothes shop people!

uniqlo also had some a while back but werent very fine. check h&m i think. they might have ditched them for summer, idiots :(

funny, i nearly did a thread on this the other day. i almost got in a fight with a real arrogant public-school, city-working arsehole the other day. he shoved past me on a tube station escalator and nearly sent me flying, so i grabbed hold of his foot and tripped him up. he was wearing a pink ralph lauren rugby sweater with the collar flipped.
it's very much the preserve of privately educated young achievers, often with floppy hair, here and i hate it too.

You can see me every week hanging out with a different girl sitting next to me cause I'm not about to settle down right now I gotta be free some of y'all fellas might be jealous but y'all know that don't faze me I just pop my collar tip my hat and turn my backs on the ones who hated me.

I'll get on h&m, ta ambrose.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 16:24 (eighteen years ago) link

also, tip: united colors of benetton normally do a good range in cotton v. neck jumpers as standard. tho warning they do shrink quite a lot on first wash so probably buy a size above.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 16:25 (eighteen years ago) link

so i grabbed hold of his foot and tripped him up. he was wearing a pink ralph lauren rugby sweater with the collar flipped.

so you actually bent down and grabbed his foot? sounds quite impressive.

ive just decided that my personal people-who-wear-the-collars-of-their-polo-shirts-flipped-up equivalent are people-who-use-the-word-'diaspora'-in-everyday-conversation

he said escalator, ruth.

cor, what if the guy had fallen backwards causing everyone else behind him on the escalator to fall backwards...

Popped-collar-stalker note: I just got back from the San Francisco Art Institute where an awfully handsome young (18) man sauntered into Pete's Café with, yep, collar turned up. Cute as a button, rockin' the collar.
