Getting REALLY annoyed by the following sequence:

1. Person I haven't thought of in years adds me as friend
2. I send message that says "hey, what's up, how've you been"
3. No response

Should I add a step 4 here where I un-friend them? I mean, seriously, if you don't like me enough to return a polite "how are you" note, then why are you adding me as a friend in the first place?

nabisco, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 21:08 (sixteen years ago) link

maybe s/he is with the family, celebrating some holiday, not checking fbook msgs?

69, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 21:09 (sixteen years ago) link

"Getting REALLY annoyed" should be read to indicate that this is very much an ongoing pattern. The best was a girl I could faintly remember being in high school with when I was 15 -- adds me, I write ("wow, how've you been, what are you doing in NYC now"), nothing.

nabisco, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 21:15 (sixteen years ago) link

me and jon are in a facebook relationship

homosexual II, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 21:18 (sixteen years ago) link

here's a peeve: unless you already had it on your 'Looking for' section before they got rid of it, you can no longer change your 'Looking for' to 'Whatever I Can Get.' thus, all these people can look for whatever they can get, but i cannot. UNFAIR.

i even wrote to them about it, to no avail.

so to be a smart-ass, i changed my religious views to "whatever i can get." heh heh.

the table is the table, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 21:19 (sixteen years ago) link

seriously though, why'd they get rid of that option? don't they think that some people might have gone from looking for a relationship to looking for whatever they can get?

the table is the table, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 21:20 (sixteen years ago) link

I am periodically updating my religious views -- right now it's at 2897. Next week I'll up it to 2904.

i just deleted ex bf who's been sending me slightly creepy/flirty messages for a few months. i never replied and he never got the hint, so time to obliterate him.

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 22:00 (sixteen years ago) link

:(

Better hint: actually reply and say you found messages inappropriate and bothersome

nabisco, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 22:11 (sixteen years ago) link

nah he's way too stupid to understand that.

nabisco, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 23:06 (sixteen years ago) link

The majority of the flirting process for my most recent, short-lived relationship was done via Facebook, and I must say it was a lot easier and less stressful than doing it in person or even via text, so hooray for that. Double-edged sword, though - I got bluntly informed by the internet the other day that she is now 'in a relationship', grrr. And I couldn't resist a bit of spying and having a look at her new bloke, which didn't make things better.

chap, Thursday, 27 December 2007 01:26 (sixteen years ago) link

rubyredd totally made me blush with her rude message

ken c, Thursday, 27 December 2007 01:53 (sixteen years ago) link

I want out of facebook but can only seem to de-activate it. Is it deletable?

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 09:19 (sixteen years ago) link

if it isn't, just delete all your friends and change all your personal details (name, email, age etc.)

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 09:28 (sixteen years ago) link

http://www.wikihow.com/Permanently-Delete-a-Facebook-Account

that's pretty odd that you can't just delete it.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 09:31 (sixteen years ago) link

Doesn't that just make another facebook account?

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 09:45 (sixteen years ago) link

I was so excited about Facebook last year. Now I can't stand the fucking thing. If it weren't for invitations to important things I wouldn't bother using it at all.

Autumn Almanac, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 09:47 (sixteen years ago) link

People just can't resist plastering their pages with tardloads of useless crap, and of course they have to send every one of their contacts a billion impersonal Pokes or Whacks or Are You Stronger Than a Dog? requests... so weird.

Kerm, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 09:54 (sixteen years ago) link

also: sky blue, sun rises daily

Kerm, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 09:57 (sixteen years ago) link

Two people I know send me literally hundreds of these shit invitations every month. One of them works in my company: if you email her a support request you NEVER get an answer, but she has enough time to invite me to all these bloody applications. I put in a request for some hardware TWICE last year and I haven't had a response, much less the hardware I asked for, but it's okay because she invited me to What Housebrick Are You 500 times. I mean for fuxake.

Autumn Almanac, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 09:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, that's partly the reason for my going, people using facebook as an alternative to email/phone/letters. Maybe I'm just too old but I just don't get it.

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 10:00 (sixteen years ago) link

I used to get it. It's when (a) people went application crazy and (b) my mother started passing me messages through my cousins that I withdrew.
