haha. u know im like assuming the character of tt lame-o. im racing all tts while not training pretty much at all. i think i have 400 miles during november, december, january. nothing i can do aboiut it except yknow, buy cheesy gear. im relishing my "do everything rong" race hobby.

^^^^ i bought helmet used for rather cheap, w/ visor, no earpieces.

lol i have that TT helmet!

sir ilx-a-lot (cutty), Tuesday, 16 February 2010 02:05 (fourteen years ago) link

it's not the most aero but there is less margin of era on the backside if your held tilts the wrong way

sir ilx-a-lot (cutty), Tuesday, 16 February 2010 02:06 (fourteen years ago) link

shasta i'd go with lazer

Giro have the biggest noggin encompassing helmet, they make the only one capable of protecting my head.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Tuesday, 16 February 2010 02:51 (fourteen years ago) link

xpost yeah, i heard its a bit of an aero liability but really comfortable. i like the idea of the visor, because i don't think glasses will work well with my position. i wear specs usually, but on my bars i had to look over the top of the glasses frames. even with contacts, i think id be looking over the top of my shades. so i'm hoping contacts w/ visor will be satisfactory.

the one i bought was used by someone on jelly belly, maybe they left some fast in it that i can absorb.

what do y'all think of Selev as a brand?

┌∩┐(◕_◕)┌∩┐ (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 16 February 2010 05:09 (fourteen years ago) link

never heard of it

sir ilx-a-lot (cutty), Tuesday, 16 February 2010 12:49 (fourteen years ago) link

get levis to make u a denim helmet

sir ilx-a-lot (cutty), Tuesday, 16 February 2010 12:49 (fourteen years ago) link

Never hear of i but I looked at their site and most of their helmets don't go above Italian size, i.e. too small.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Tuesday, 16 February 2010 13:22 (fourteen years ago) link

ive never heard of them but they look good. that matrix helmet goes up to 63, which seems like a pretty damn huge melon.

isnt a 60cm pretty big?

u b ilxin' (Hunt3r), Tuesday, 16 February 2010 13:39 (fourteen years ago) link

63cm is too small for my melon, but I have a ridiculous mellon and hairstyle and like to fit a (thin) hat in there.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Tuesday, 16 February 2010 14:25 (fourteen years ago) link

i'm 60cm (7.5" us hat size) which is a L on their sight. am currently considering this:
http://www.probikekit.com/_img_500x640/H2204.jpg

which has good random bike webforum reviews wrt ventilation and comfort, is ultralight (210g), and about $50 cheaper then comparable bell/giro models and about 50% cheaper then the comparable Lazer that cutty rec'd upthread. the only concern is that Catlike, it lacks the proper USA certified safety testing but passes the Italian/European standards.

┌∩┐(◕_◕)┌∩┐ (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 16 February 2010 17:18 (fourteen years ago) link

while i've seen triathlon entities inspect helmets for certification stickers, ive NEVER seen it at a bike race. they'd have to do it at registration.

u b ilxin' (Hunt3r), Tuesday, 16 February 2010 17:23 (fourteen years ago) link

i used to rock a catlike and no one ever gave me shit

sir ilx-a-lot (cutty), Tuesday, 16 February 2010 17:27 (fourteen years ago) link

u paralyzed them w/ cool rays!

u b ilxin' (Hunt3r), Tuesday, 16 February 2010 17:28 (fourteen years ago) link

it was pretty cool! but doesn't match my current color palette.

sir ilx-a-lot (cutty), Tuesday, 16 February 2010 17:31 (fourteen years ago) link

Selev looks dope imo. I much preferred my old specialized to the new 2d. New one may be lighter but it's way wider, makes me look like Toad from Mario.

take me to your lemur (ledge), Tuesday, 16 February 2010 17:34 (fourteen years ago) link

i shld get a palette. im too cheap to buy a generic skinsuit. i wonder if the spandex still works in an antique team skinsuit. xpost.

ha toad from mario

ok, whoever it was who sent the helmet off to me put in like 6 bags of sport beans-- so so awez. the helmet is in beautiful condition too, with original bag.

malicious humor victim (Hunt3r), Saturday, 20 February 2010 04:54 (fourteen years ago) link

awes... when is your first TT hunt3r?

depends, theres on in like 3 weeks that i'll probly skip. so, early april. then.

my lack of riding and relative obesity is sapping my enthusiasm. and the shitty depresso weather weve had this year. if i wanted this shit all winter, i could live in like, syracuse.

one year passes...

I have moved on to a Giro Ionnis. That Selev I mentioned upthread looked cool but was poor quality imho. This Giro is really nice. Expensive at full price, try to grab a deal if you can.

it's a meme i made and i like (Steve Shasta), Monday, 23 May 2011 23:16 (twelve years ago) link

the giro atmos my friend gave me for xmas fits fine w/o a cycling cap underneath, but when i wear a cap, it flys off the back of my head when i'm going fast. pretty lame.

jaxon, Monday, 23 May 2011 23:46 (twelve years ago) link

also saw vids of the giro d'italia and some guys had helmets w/venting that was sideways across head instead of back. it looked hella weird

jaxon, Monday, 23 May 2011 23:48 (twelve years ago) link

maybe the new Orbea Odin helmets that Euskaltel is racing. They look like klingon foreheads.

it's a meme i made and i like (Steve Shasta), Monday, 23 May 2011 23:53 (twelve years ago) link

That's EXACTLY what I thought about them! haha!

sous les paves, Tuesday, 24 May 2011 01:08 (twelve years ago) link

I think it is time for a new helmet. Giro has been good to me, I'd like to try a bontrager oracle, as worn by leopard trek. It seems very open.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Tuesday, 24 May 2011 03:16 (twelve years ago) link

that new giro might be an option?

i like the bell volt, would recommend.

Tyler the Accuser (haitch), Tuesday, 24 May 2011 04:17 (twelve years ago) link

I think I've lost my helmet - I've got to call an off licence3 today as it's the only place I could have left it, otherwise I'm back in the market. But I'll almost certainly get the same as before because after half an hour of trying on photos and looking in the mirror it was the only one that was both comfortable and looked okay (a Met Ultimalite).

Mark C, Tuesday, 24 May 2011 09:23 (twelve years ago) link

LAZER

I have a giro monza, which appears to be the plain vanilla ice cream of helmets. There were loads of them on the last fnrttc. Pretty comfy and light enough though.

problem chimp (Porkpie), Tuesday, 24 May 2011 14:38 (twelve years ago) link

Found mine - left it in the offie. Phew!

Ya this is it

http://www.orbea.com/img/equipos/galeria/euskaltel-euskadi-03.jpg

And, nah. I'm not in the market for a helmet, I just don't wear a cap underneath.
