J0rdan S., Wednesday, 10 February 2010 18:52 (fourteen years ago) link

i love that album, wish now that it was slightly higher on my ballot

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 10 February 2010 18:53 (fourteen years ago) link

weird all three of these have had less than 10.5 points per vote

vag gangsta (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 18:55 (fourteen years ago) link

really? I am not seeing it, and when I try to view the image directly it says the site is blocked. But I can see the others, idk

The good news, judging by #50, is that it can only go uphill from here!

I regretfully take this back now that Girls have placed.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:33 (fourteen years ago) link

The only thing worse than Girls' Album placing is having to see its damn cover twice in a row.

wow! 3 out of the first 3 for me

Dan S, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:47 (fourteen years ago) link

Zero out of three for me so far, but at least I like two of the three.

Enoki Doki (Paul in Santa Cruz), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:52 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm 0/3, enjoy the Aguayo album but am new to it, so wasn't on my ballot.

47 -- Baroness - Blue Record (92 points, 11 votes) (41 in p4k, 19 in p&j)

musically, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:58 (fourteen years ago) link

Hoped that would be higher but at least it made it I guess

Pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:59 (fourteen years ago) link

hmmm. this bodes not well for the metal quotient.

m the g, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:01 (fourteen years ago) link

Enjoying this album, glad it placed.

Judging by the metal poll results, should we expect Mastodon and Converge to place in the next 15 spots or so? I've no doubt Sunn O))) will make the cut, just wondering about the other two...

Re: Ay Ay Ay

"rollerskate" is irritating as fuck

You'd probably hate the album then because all of it's done using those voice samples as the building blocks for the tracks. I love the comical feel it lends the music. These are all funny, silly-sounding songs on the one hand, but on the other they're all so damn light and graceful and sensual. Which is a pretty good trick IMO...

Still need to hear that Baroness, still the best cover ever though.

We should have called Suzie and Bobby (NickB), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:05 (fourteen years ago) link

still the best cover ever though.

...when it doesn't have that nasty writing on it I mean

We should have called Suzie and Bobby (NickB), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:06 (fourteen years ago) link

I suppose that's the downside with polls getting a lot of votes it means niche stuff doesn't do that well.

Pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:07 (fourteen years ago) link

I hoped YOB and Cobalt would make it but they wont beat Baroness. Im not even sure Converge will make it.

Pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:08 (fourteen years ago) link

don't really 'do' metal

Freddy 'The Wonder Chicken' (Gukbe), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:08 (fourteen years ago) link

To a lot of metalheads, Baroness , Converge, Sunn o))), Mastodon etc aren't metal.

Pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:10 (fourteen years ago) link

Listened to half of the Girls album when it came out, shrugged, moved on.

Listened to the whole Matias Aguayo, actively didn't like, have somewhat come around now but not fully.

Or they all just kinda suck.

unless this is an intentional deej parody this is straight up dickhead talk

Would vote Baroness on packaging alone - that's Tuskesque, only even better.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:27 (fourteen years ago) link

there is absolutely no denying the nirvana that can be attained from a well conceived and packaged vinyl release.

baroness placing = uhoh for metal in general for sure for this poll

rephrase: i expect poll will have little or no further metal on it

Sunn O))) is a lock for top 25, Mastodon good to probable chance of showing, Converge unlikely... that's all folks!

Are you going to posit this in every thread where I say proggy southern metal (Torche excepted) is crap? Just wonderin'.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:34 (fourteen years ago) link

Metal always gets shafted in the polls which is why there is a metal albums of year poll now on ILM.

Pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:35 (fourteen years ago) link

It's like they took the packaging/cover art for this Fahey comp...

http://www.normanrecords.com/images/covers/85294.jpg

...and then threw some BBW's (or whatever the Craigslist personal ads term is) in there for good measure.

shouldn't shock anybody that it was not a big year for crossover metal--i mean converge/mastodon/sunn/baroness are all like 3-7 albums deep or something, could they really be getting many new fans? and no monster debuts/career peaks afaict (maybe blue record is a career peak, i don't know)

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:37 (fourteen years ago) link

is a particular emphasis placed on putting an effort into packaging and the physical artefact in metal, then? like, is this sort of packaging par for the course in the genre or a baroness unusual in doing it...

Lusine - A Certain Distance -- 3 points, 1 votes
