Ooops, IDM not ADM. Dunno what ADM is--Autistic Dance Music I suppose.

ah but live cough idm cough, even ae, always has been more four to the floor and danceable than the records (which always led me to wonder exactly what records they were playing and how could i get them. never did figure it out.)

Support from Rob Hall (standard IDM dj set, see above) and SND, who played... just beats. No melodies. Virtually devoid of interesting rhythms, even. It reminded me of the standard complaints about ae - cold, abstract - but this lacked any of their complexity, it was totally transparent. Didn't do it for me at all.

A good gig I think - I was entirely sober and yet completely lost track of time - seemed to last about five minutes, and I don't think I fell asleep. The wall of bass did get a bit much at times - submerged almost everything else. And yes, quite chilly. And a lot of people there could have done with a more recent bath or change of clothes.

Err I was just listening to this morning's Today programme coverage of the US elections, and then Autechre came on afterwards!

"ah but live cough idm cough, even ae, always has been more four to the floor and danceable than the records."

Not when I've seen 'em really.

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 13:44 (sixteen years ago) link

no wai! i set my alarm for an hour later 'cause i needed a bit more sleep after the gig, or i'd have heard that, and probably would have freaked me right out. now i'll have to install realplayer, hmph.

xp. well maybe not four to the floor as such, but more consistent and more danceable. imho i guess.

ledge, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 13:54 (sixteen years ago) link

The .ram file isn't actually what was broadcast, it's an extended version of the interview - the bit on the radio was shorter but had vox pops from last night etc.

toby, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 14:09 (sixteen years ago) link

"Tell us some of the more unusual sound effects you've used and what happens to them next"

"No"

koogs, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 14:15 (sixteen years ago) link

Not when I've seen 'em really.

There was a fair bit to get down to when I saw them circa the last album, and the new one has some straight passages of electro-y stuff that I don't think people could consider onjectionably undanceable. Also not being a dick but I can't think of when Dave Simpson has ever expressed an interest in dance music (but I don't maintain davesimpson.xls or owt)

DJ Mencap, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 14:18 (sixteen years ago) link

The first part of that extended version is awful, just clueless and irrelevant questions. She can't even pronounce the album names right!

xp to koogs yeah that was lol.

ledge, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 14:25 (sixteen years ago) link

If anyone wants to Listen Again to the short-form Ae interview on the Today prog itself, it starts around 7:42am (i.e. 1h42m into the clip).

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 16:48 (sixteen years ago) link

this is painful!

This is how I feel also.

sleeve, Saturday, 5 April 2008 23:02 (sixteen years ago) link

Bah, I don't think I want to go see them tonight.

Leee, Sunday, 6 April 2008 01:07 (sixteen years ago) link

you have something better to do?

Creeztophair, Sunday, 6 April 2008 01:59 (sixteen years ago) link

Definitely more enjoyable than listening to them in the dark.

Leee, Sunday, 6 April 2008 02:05 (sixteen years ago) link

This is great, far less oblique but still very mindfuckingly them. Insiduous and great. Hussar!

Mister Craig, Sunday, 6 April 2008 11:28 (sixteen years ago) link

Best thing they've done since EP7.

the next grozart, Monday, 7 April 2008 14:47 (sixteen years ago) link

So I heard this for the first time yesterday.

Well, I didn't like it.

I think my Autechre days are well and truly over.

I liked bits of the limited edition CD all right, some of the pieces sound better when allowed to wander all over the place to their natural improv endings instead of being clipped off. but there's a lot of overlap & the obvious point of this whole casually-edited pile-of-tracks project is to force us to do our own editing

this band has always made such beautiful albums that I love listening to all the way through, but I shouldn't have even bothered with the physical version of this one, it's inherently an ipod project

Milton Parker, Monday, 12 May 2008 20:03 (fifteen years ago) link

First track The Plc ccc up on bleep now.

£8 to subscribe - 1 track a day for the next 13 days

nice & minimal, that first remix

StanM, Monday, 19 May 2008 14:44 (fifteen years ago) link

4 days later, 4 tracks downloaded (33 minutes) and at the moment, IMHO:

new remixes >>> versions disc >>> original album

StanM, Thursday, 22 May 2008 18:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, I'm listening to the new remixes most too. Track 3 very very dark. A poster noted on WATMM that the first track PLC ccc is a chopped and screwed version of the Quaristice track.

Unfortunately most of the other posters there are sulking that they are not getting a live soundboard recording that they feel they as fans are entitled to, and as a result trashing this release in a fit of pique. Knobbers.

This is great, far less oblique but still very mindfuckingly them. Insiduous and great. Hussar!

I like that... insidious. I could usually hang with the dissonant nervous freaky shit from the last couple of records that would clear out any room, but this is different than that. It's oogy. It makes me feel unwell.

kenan, Thursday, 22 May 2008 20:23 (fifteen years ago) link

That's praise, btw.

kenan, Thursday, 22 May 2008 20:23 (fifteen years ago) link

This almost seems like too many tracks to deal with. Tracing sonic similarities, trying to figure out likes and dislikes... I feel like I'm studying for an exam.

ledge, Thursday, 22 May 2008 21:53 (fifteen years ago) link

But yes, more like Perlence Suns plz.

ledge, Thursday, 22 May 2008 21:54 (fifteen years ago) link

I also <3 <3 <3 Altichyre off Versions, that is some seriously affecting minimalism.

ledge, Thursday, 22 May 2008 22:44 (fifteen years ago) link

The tracks are going to be coming out on iTunes in a fortnight as 4 seperate EPs

1
The Plc ccc
Perlence range 7
Perlence Suns
90101-51-6

2
9013-2
Tkakanren
90101-51-19
Perlence subrange 3

3
chenc9-1dub
9010171-121
Perlence losid 2
notwotwo

4
Perlence subrange 6-36

and should be averaging around 35 mins each, Perlence subrange 6-36 is going to be interesting as the longest track they've released.

I am using your worlds, Thursday, 22 May 2008 22:52 (fifteen years ago) link

there's also a japan itunes store exclusive ep that came out last month.

tracklisting...
1. IO (mons)
2. 90101-54-4
3. Blyz Castl

Creeztophair, Friday, 23 May 2008 01:02 (fifteen years ago) link

i think "io (mons)" might be the same version that's on the quaristice versions disc. this is all so confusing...

Creeztophair, Friday, 23 May 2008 01:03 (fifteen years ago) link

Hey worlds my bf posts on WATMM religiously and is following this new release closely. Argh board overlaps!

Trayce, Friday, 23 May 2008 03:52 (fifteen years ago) link

Does saying that "he must be the one with the Peter Gabriel avatar" come under the category of researching ur life? If so, I won't mention it

(Although he does appear to be one of the few reasonable posters on there)

I am using your worlds, Friday, 23 May 2008 10:23 (fifteen years ago) link

Hahaha oh dear! ok wtf now he wants to know who you are on there!

Trayce, Friday, 23 May 2008 11:33 (fifteen years ago) link

I haven't posted on there for years because I lost my password, so now I just occasionally lurk, and get riled by the fanboys.

There are folk on there that seem to take it as a personal insult that one of their favourite bands are releasing a large amount of new material, extremely cheaply, that they are under no obligation to purchase.
