i just realized i was an idiot and put out my recycling friday night and they didn't pick it up and now it's buried under 2 ft of snow + plowed snow + soon to be another foot of snow = i am never getting it out

harbl, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 01:14 (fourteen years ago) link

Welcome to ultimate snow season, we're getting another 5-8" here. I was going to wait to clean my driveway, but I could only get my car halfway up it. Then I ended up destroying one of the pins in my snowblower and had to replace it. Good times.

anyone ever mess around with any of those ergonomically-designed snow shovels with the curved handle (Fig. A), or the ones that rest on a huge wheel so it's like a big rolling scooping lever (Fig. B), or the plow-y ones with a bar on each side of the shovel so it looks like a lawnmower (Fig. C)? if i had a driveway or something i think i might wanna upgrade, but as it is i only have to shovel the sidewalk in front of my townhouse and a little path to the back gate. i pride myself on my quickness and i think a fancier shovel might just slow me down.

Fig. C why can't you be more like Figs. A and B

iiiijjjj, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 02:37 (fourteen years ago) link

figure A are good but B and C i don't understand

harbl, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 02:52 (fourteen years ago) link

seems like B would reduce strain to your back by giving you this portable fulcrum that you can just push down on to lift and then just swivel over to the side to dispense, whereas C appears to involves absolutely no back strain at all, but i'm not sure how you would clear the spade of its snowload.

this is what midwestern VFW hall patrons discuss once football season's over, isn't it

iiiijjjj, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:02 (fourteen years ago) link

sometimes you need to throw snow further away so not being able to lift seems bad

harbl, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:17 (fourteen years ago) link

you should get an A, iiiijjjj. B and C are for people who have a lot of newfangled gadgets

harbl, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:20 (fourteen years ago) link

like a bowflex and a ronco food dehydrator

am0n, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 21:48 (fourteen years ago) link

i know it's called thundersnow but i don't like that because when thunder happens when it's raining it's not called thunderrain

harbl, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 21:49 (fourteen years ago) link

lol

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 21:50 (fourteen years ago) link

its called a thunderstorm when its rain

am0n, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 21:50 (fourteen years ago) link

it should be called a thunderstorm when it snows also then, because it is a snow storm

harbl, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 21:52 (fourteen years ago) link

nope

am0n, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 21:54 (fourteen years ago) link

harbl--when it rains, its called a "thunderstorm," when it snows, its called "thundersnow"

max, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 21:55 (fourteen years ago) link

that's just not logical ok

harbl, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 21:57 (fourteen years ago) link

another al3x, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 03:09 (fourteen years ago) link

i'm actually the cat man tbh
when i went out to go to the library today a pile of snow fell off my roof and on my head. my bag was fully of ice balls. someone on cathedral has a sign on their door that says "watch out for snow above" and i looked up and there is a huge avalanche waiting to crush a pedestrian. it is v dangerous out there.

harbl, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 03:18 (fourteen years ago) link

lol it's like you're living in buffalo! (it's a common hazard there)
