TV critic Clive James's hobby of collecting powerful magnets and sellotaping them to his underclothes wrought disaster when he was invited to sit in on a Steely Dan mixing session in the late 70s; when Fagen and Becker realised the antipodean scribe had wiped their work by drunkenly slumping over the Studer 24-track, they sought and gained a court order to force him to recreate (with Jonathan Cohen and Tristan Fry) side B of Aja from memory, in his own time and at his own expense. CJ's long-running smirking-at-the-Japanese shows of the 80s were his way of covering studio costs. See also: Chris Tarrant, The Dream Of The Blue Turtles and Helium Outgassing Syndrome.
