Anyone wanna explain to me where the trend of wrinkles at the thigh originated from? half the jeans i see these days have these wrinkles on the thigh, or fade marks there. it's fucking revolting.
― big (surm), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 14:49 (fourteen years ago) link
raw denim fad iirc
― ain't no thang but a chicken ㅋ (dyao), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 14:50 (fourteen years ago) link
the indigo dye fades away fastest at the front part near the crotch/thighs and the backs of the knees. so companies are all about recreatin that in their prestressed jeans. waiting for SS to show up and school me.
― ain't no thang but a chicken ㅋ (dyao), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 14:51 (fourteen years ago) link
fading is one thing. lines that are supposed to look like creases or wrinkles is something else altogether.
― big (surm), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 14:53 (fourteen years ago) link
but yeah i guess i just need to shout out against raw denim altogether, unless it's very special
― big (surm), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 14:56 (fourteen years ago) link
"Whiskers" are the worst kind of pre-fading, imo.

― big (surm), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 14:58 (fourteen years ago) link
my worst pet peeve about jeans is when people wear pre-stressed jeans where the original pair was obviously worn by someone very tall, so the fading on the back of the knee ends up being around the person's mid-calf or lower
― ain't no thang but a chicken ㅋ (dyao), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 14:58 (fourteen years ago) link
They're called whiskers on women's jeans, don't know for sure if also on men's. On us girls, they radiate more or less out from the crotch, which is what I REALLY hate about them: like neon sign arrows pointing to incipient camel toe.
― Ask foreigners and they will tell you the gospel comes from America. (Laurel), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 15:07 (fourteen years ago) link
if you ever look at a pair of vintage jeans, they usually will have patterns of wear and whiskering. for consumers who want to wear "vintage looking" jeans, these patterns and whiskering are designed to emulate what happens to a pair of normal jeans over time.
it has nothing to do with raw denim, it has everything to do with time and wear.

Right cuff keeps reverting to being longer than my left cuff, though.

Bought what are technically my most expensive pair of jeans ever today - got some Glory jeans originally $160 at 60% off. They are your standard dark blue utility jean, but the denim is very heavy and rigid compared to other jeans I've owned. They don't have any annoying pre-fade or piss-stain or creases or anything, which I appreciate.

fun fact: theyre called 'whiskers' not 'creases' and were inspired by china (vague recollection of watching a documentary on a couple of inhouse designers traveling to china getting inspiration from hanging laundry woah)
i actually bought my favorite pair jeans in a long long time at walmart for $10 a couple of weeks ago. why doesnt anyone make dark rinse flared jeans anymore? also desired: white stitching.
also please please please dont catch on 'JEGGINGS' (the term - dont really care one why or the other about the jeans themselves)

how could anyone invent "whiskers"? they appear naturally as a result of wearing jeans
― progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 12:06 (thirteen years ago) link

― sunny successor, Thursday, 12 August 2010 04:25 (thirteen years ago) link
the history of distressing/pre-worn looks on denim is not rooted in China. I'd wager italy or usa circa 1980 according to my lookbooks.

You don't need magic to conjure up the perfect pair of jeans - they're right here! Everything you'd wish for in a pair of pants, these on-trend, lightweight 'chief of all jean-ies' feature a pleated front, hip pockets, slightly tapered leg, and sleek, pocketless back. Craft an astonishingly amazing look by pairing this great garment with a puff-sleeved chiffon blouse, bejeweled sandals, and as many bangles as you wish, and people will have to blink to make sure they saw you right!
^^ this is how i know that i have lost touch with what the kids are wearing. i would not be caught dead in these pants.

― The Great Jumanji, (La Lechera), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 17:29 (thirteen years ago) link
Those are trousers, they don't have a "stomach" - and how can you see the butt? have you enhanced and rotated?
― progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 17:36 (thirteen years ago) link
1) there are no pockets on the butt, which frequently leads to the appearance of a flat butt, esp. with such high waisted pants2) pleats are like a little cave for poochy stomachs (ie normal stomachs). if a person has even the smallest pooch, pleats are basically an advertisement for that pooch. little fabric arrows pointing at one's pooch.
conclusion -- these pants are unflattering if you do not have a perfectly flat stomach or a perfectly round rear.
to the 3-4 people on whom this would be flattering, enjoy your high waisted pleated chambray jeans
