Totally forgetting one of my favorite examples!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mljIBTfTxScThe vulgarity is off the charts. I mean as if the lyrics weren't bad enough, she spits them with the most unbridled fury imagineable (and how can you not love "Suck your dick, bastard bitch! / I wanna get your weiner in my ass!!" One of my absolute favorites is the intro to "Art School Girls of Doom" from Liquid Television. Something about this beat is so fucking infections; it sounds like "Numbers" for the slacker generation. Will some day sample it.

That is not remotely fast, dancey, or electroish! It's just people talking over a 4/4 beat.

That's the original from 1984. It's pretty dope, but I think Hardfloor's remix from 1997 is even better:

The DJ Koze Pink Moon Remix of Sascha Funke's "Mango" - this is definitely one of my top tracks of the past decade. "Where We At" is a great song too, but this Pink Moon Remix more than any other song really sums up the tone of recent years:
Dream on dreamerSmile in slow motion when you're out of control, cuz the revolution wont be televised, wont be live, wont happen at all...
Dream on dreamerCuz you did the best as you could, you're dyin slow but way much quicker than you should...
Maybe I'm just getting old. Scratch that - I'm definitely getting old. Couldn't really find the song on YT - it is incorporated into this blend though:

Actual song can be heard here.

The "dream on dreamer" voiceover in the DJ Koze remix of "Mango" is from another track on Mango, "The Fortune Cookie Symphony" - though on the album it's a short ambient closer rather than 4/4.
― with hidden noise, Thursday, 11 February 2010 19:42 (fourteen years ago) link
Ah, thanks. I suspected it was actually from another song but I couldn't sort out which one. Still, the darkness of the Koze remix really sucks me in.

I find this type of music can be either the best thing in the world: e.g. 'monologue house' type stuff; or its the worst: i.e. Miss Kittin/Tiga, etc (non-disco music made by cokeheads, for cokeheads = do not want).
Someone got to Sleeper in Metropolis already, So I'll post this:

Manuel Gottsching
" 'Die Dominas' were two old friends of mine. They are my long time friend Rosi, who also performed on some Ash Ra Tempel records and Claudia Skoda for whose fashion shows I have been composing and performing most of the music since 1976. They knew KW from Düsseldorf because they often went there together for fashion fairs. Ralf H. and Karl B. wrote down two special chords for them on a piece of paper: the 'sub Domina' and the 'Domina seven' (Domina = dominant) chords. Later in Berlin they were asking me to show them how these chords sounded. So, one evening when we were doing a nice long session together in my studio, I played them these chords. I explained a little about the instruments in the studio, and they started experimenting with them, without knowing that I was already recording the session! It was really a hilarious session, and the voices sounded like we were having a party. The next day, I started re-mixing the material, and finally got three titles out of it! Claudia and Rosi were so impressed with the result they played it to Ralf and Karl. They were so taken by the recording they offered to make the cover for the album. It turned out to be a very nice cover that looked like a silhouette in black and yellow. "

This came out in 1983, so it's probably the first tune to do this in an electro context. (It's Sugar Hill Records' house drummer Keith LeBlanc sampling Malcolm X on top of a DMX drum machine.)
