love kate bush, can't really stand tori amos, this 'daniel' track sounds more like pat benatar to me, with more reverb. not that that's a bad thing.

It has this wonderful velocity that none of her other songs (well, Pearl's Dream to an extent) has.

(although maybe "groove" is more applicable to "Trophy" than "velocity")

also I think ppl should listen to "Two Planets" and "Horse and I" because there's nothing particularly ethereal about either of them

i find myself weirdly a lot more kindly disposed to bat for lashes than the last time i thought about her, at the height of the hype - maybe this is just a post-la roux, post-florence, post-marina opinion - and i think i might quietly check out her album soon

xpost Maybe not expressing myself properly there. It's not that everything else is away with the fairies - Daniel just has an extra jolt of electricity. It rushes. But the whole album's one of my favourites of 09.

I think the tom-tom/timpani interplay in "Two Planets" mixed in with the vocal pitchshifting is the most electrifying moment on the album.

daniel's a fun listen; that video is unpleasant.

since I pretty much never see videos outside of ILM I'm sorta amused/horrified that both the B4L clip and the GaGa clip feature super-ridiculous 80s artsy backup dancers - they're like an even sillier version of the guys in that New Order video, or Bowie doing Scary Monsters material on SNL. ok i really don't get the 'daniel' love - can someone explain in a little more detail? the 'in a forest' ref kind of makes sense but it still seems kind of un-gripping to me. i liked 'prescilla' off that other bat for lashes album but that was it.

I feel like taylor swift and lady gaga could have released the same singles in 1995 and there's something sorta disappointing about these kinda songs like that winning a 09 poll. I don't love bat for lashes, but at least that isn't true for her.
