Ah just when I thought ILM had given up on one of the decade's best bands.

Seriously, they're getting way too much flack these days. I'm bored of hearing about how much people hate them.
― dog latin, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 00:20 (fourteen years ago) link
AnCo? they get flack coz they're shit.
― Freddy 'The Wonder Chicken' (Gukbe), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 00:25 (fourteen years ago) link
except My Girls. that's pretty great.
Poor GrizBear.
The results are Bush v. Gore.
― Blue Fucks Like Ben Nelson (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 00:30 (fourteen years ago) link
The grizzbear h8 is bordering on stupid. They've got some great songs.
― Emily's Cheese, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 07:51 (fourteen years ago) link
yeah i cant say i get the ilx grizz hate
― goldblapp (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 07:52 (fourteen years ago) link
they are boring as fuck but as long as animals keep on collecting we need to not let ourselves get distracted and fight the real enemy imo
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 07:55 (fourteen years ago) link
tbh Grizzly Bear is as crazy as early Zappa when compared to shit like Iron & Wine or Jose Gonzalez
― goldblapp (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 08:08 (fourteen years ago) link
yeah but they're the only ones on the pedestal
grizz is the first indie band in a while that is really loved that i literally do not like at all -- just such bloodless music. i've never found anything they write catchy.
― big hoos state of mind (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 08:09 (fourteen years ago) link
Bloodless music? I'm not even sure what you mean by that....
― Emily's Cheese, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 08:12 (fourteen years ago) link
it's as if statues were playing music, and not in a good way like the xx -- it strikes me 'expansive' music that's completely hollow -- i understand why the aesthetic appeals to people but i don't understand how people sit through the songs
― big hoos state of mind (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 08:14 (fourteen years ago) link
I guess we feel exactly the opposite because your statues statement is how I feel about the XX. The dullest, most insincere music I've ever heard. Whereas I get a lot of emotion out of Grizzly Bear---particularly songs like Reprise and Foreground. Guess I just have different taste that you and most of ILX, although I did enjoy the Fever Ray album I don't think she merits 3 of the top 50 tracks....
― Emily's Cheese, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 08:16 (fourteen years ago) link
well about the last word i would use for the xx would be 'insecure', but i understand how people could feel the opposite way of me in terms of the statue thing -- i enjoyed fever ray too and don't think she merits three of the fifty tracks
― big hoos state of mind (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 08:18 (fourteen years ago) link
I didn't say insecure. I think they have fairly large egos actually. I just said insincere. Seems like a total put on. (talking about the xx)
― Emily's Cheese, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 08:20 (fourteen years ago) link
oh my bad. ok.
― big hoos state of mind (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 08:22 (fourteen years ago) link
I've seen them live and wasn't impressed. Lots of similar note plucking. Zero energy. Not that GB have much to offer in that department on stage, however I will say their musicianship , particularly the drummer and Daniel Rossen, left me completely impressed. Maybe I need to see the XX again, but when I saw them they seemed a bit smug, bored and droll
― Emily's Cheese, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 08:24 (fourteen years ago) link
if it makes you guys feel better i dislike both

my taste has never been a pose, but ok
― a place to bury st edmunds (electricsound), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 08:31 (fourteen years ago) link
into you either way. Like how you aren't into both bands. Makes me want to get to know you more

am I schmindie? :D THANX!!!
― Emily's Cheese, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 09:21 (fourteen years ago) link
Mr. Fever, who's the collective "we", the embittered washed up music critics that haunt this site day in and day out? Or is this just a case of the "royal we", in which case you are fully forgiven sir
― Emily's Cheese, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 09:24 (fourteen years ago) link
Handy tip: try not being a dick to everybody else on the site and then maybe they won't be dicks to you.
Yours, on behalf of all the embittered washed up music critics
― Dorian (Dorianlynskey), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 09:34 (fourteen years ago) link
I didn't star the "I hate them both" comment above. Having a convo with someone else and someone chimed in with a useful "guess what? I think they both suck" comment....
― Emily's Cheese, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 09:38 (fourteen years ago) link
Well don't rise to it, and don't lash out at the entire site. If you start quarrelling with everyone who makes a comment you don't like, this isn't going to be much fun.
― Dorian (Dorianlynskey), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 09:40 (fourteen years ago) link
It never really was THAT much fun to begin with....While I appreciate the advice, someone needs to call a spade a spade, otherwise we just go around in solipsistic circles circle jerking and commending one another's obscure/simultaneously majorly mainstream music tastes, no?
― Emily's Cheese, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 09:42 (fourteen years ago) link
INDIE=BAD
GAGA/PAISLEY/MAINSTREAM=GOOD
DRONE/METAL/RANDOMNOISE=GOOD
INDIE=I hate that guy I see every morning at the coffee shop, he pisses me off.
― Emily's Cheese, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 09:43 (fourteen years ago) link
Fine. Blow a gasket defending Grizzly Bear if you like. Fight the good fight for poor misunderstood indie bands everywhere.

Not blowing anything.
Someone tomorrow will have something even more dismissive to say to "take me down a notch"---ultimately though, how is anything I said any more/less bitchy than 99 percent of the shit posted on this board?
am I villainized for being a bitch? liking grizzly bear? not being a music critic? defending indie? being contrary? or just being "bloodless"....someone tomorrow will surely tell me why I suck and I'm looking forward to it.
― Emily's Cheese, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 10:04 (fourteen years ago) link
people are saying that grizzly bear and animal collective suck, not you

GrizzBear mostly a snoozefest, but 'Two Weeks' is unfuckwithable. Same goes for AnCo's 'My Girls', but the rest of their catalogue is larger and far more annoying, so yes they need to be destroyed first.
― Freddy 'The Wonder Chicken' (Gukbe), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 13:20 (fourteen years ago) link
one thing i like abt anco is the sprawl of what they've produced and all the ideas picked up toyed with and tossed back on the pile.

― plaxico (I know, right?), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 13:35 (fourteen years ago) link
You know, I kind of respect AnCo for doing new things, which I would never accuse the Grizz of, they just happen to do new things that make my blood boil.
