I'm with lex, I think Rated R is the standout in her discography thus far. What it lacks (barely) in the immediate thrill of its singles, it more than makes up for with a strong set of tracks all around.

i deliberately didn't vote for trax off (most of) my favourite albums, in order to rep for trax with no albums - seems few other people took this course :(

I think "White Horse" is my least favourite song on the T-Swift album (though that's a relative, it just makes the whole fairytale angle too straightforward.

Man, I always underestimate the amount of strategy required in voting in ILM polls. I think I decided to vote trax unordered - if the resultant point discrepancy pushed some of the pop/r'n'b I was repping for out of the top 50 in favour of unnecessary points for indie consensus picks, I will smack myself in the forehead. Repeatedly.

Have we had a Fearless poll yet? Because if not, it's overdue.

A lot of those ">>" distinctions are fairly meaningless I have to admit, it took me a while to realise just how consistent an album it is.

"tell me why" is underrated i think cuz it comes after the big stretch of opening bangers but i love the canned banjo & the whispery bridge

chorus is great as well

i think the "94 Ho Draft" skit that's recurring throughout is a little strained but worth including.

Oh yeah "Tell Me Why"! I'd put that in the "Fearless" / "Fifteen" / "Tell Me Why" block. Chorus is excellent, yes.

it took me ages to even get to the second half of fearless because i had to play the first half on loop so much - it's just as strong though, i think i'd only drop "change"

You're so right. Better to save those top spots for the bland and inoffensive AOR and tween-pop.

I feel like I'm the only person in the world who can't see what's so amazing about Taylor Swift. Everything I've heard from her sounds like slightly above average country-pop (OK, "You Belong To Me" is pretty good)... Seriously, what is it?

Re "Tell Me Why", my favourite bit is the chorus where she sings "So here's to you and your temper - yes, I remember what you said last night!" Which simultaneously sounds totally spontaneous and in-conversation while also being so composed that it flows perfectly.

There's a lot I like about Taylor but the first two things that come to mind is her fluency in the songwriting; everything is always done with such spectacular craftsmanship and pride in work. It's like when you see an antique chair from the 1890's and it's all handmade and properly planed and the joints are perfect.
I'm also always blown away by her ability to make everything sound honest and personal. plenty of singing is acting (MJ sure hadn't had a love that he wanted back that bad at that age) and Taylor's a great actor.

I am mad impressed with her songwriting ability, to restate a positive thing I've said about her before that gets lost in the kerfluffle of how much I dislike her singing.

tim and forks otm - i also love how she knows exactly when to raise the drama stakes and when to underplay a situation, so "i don't know how it gets better than this" is a perfect rush of joy on the title track, but then on "breathe" she just casually shrugs "people are people and sometimes we change our minds", and it's just devastating.

I think "Forever & Always" is often my favourite because of the zinginess of "...you said you loved me - WERE YOU JUST KIDDING?"
