I do like how it smoothly transitions from merely kooky to completely insane. Also,

At one time, crocodiles accounted for more deaths in sub-Saharan Africa than gunfire

I'm not sure that this is the boldest of statements.

So is there anything in particular behind Conservapedia's front-page focus on an apparently minor case of a medical researcher being punished for falsifying some research? Or is it just that all scientists are crooked and bad?

it's that scientists who think the speed of light is constant are part of the liberal conspiracy to discredit the Bible

oh ya, that thing.

It truly warms my cockles to see that they (Conservapedia, that is, not Godless scientists) have started doing editorial cartoons. Generally so WTF that I can't work out what they're about.

Classic CP spin on the front page: "Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says she does not see herself remaining the country's top diplomat for a full eight years" becomes "Hillary Clinton announces she'll resign as Secretary of State if Obama is reelected for a second term".

With each passing day it appears more likely that Conservapedia will be mentioned in the January 31, 2010 2pm Eastern Standard time interview between YouTube Christian apologists Shockofgod, NephilimFree, and Dmann4christ and Christian apologist Ray Comfort.VIDEO You can listen to the program live HERE Will the Conservapedia atheism and evolution articles be mentioned during the interview? If you watch the video directly above, that is certainly appearing to be more likely, but time will tell. In the meantime, please stay tuned for future developments!

Wait, it is likely they'll be mentioned by these third-rate hacks, and they're celebrating the fact that it seems possible? That is like celebrating because the Santa at the mall might let you sit on his lap.

Can anyone explain where the "Obama is lost without a teleprompter" meme came from, and why it continues to be so popular among conservatives? Given the numerous malaprops that W was known for, is it simply "lol, yer dude can't speak either," or is there something I missed?

Such A Hilbily (Dan Peterson), Monday, 1 February 2010 15:19 (fourteen years ago) link

I think it comes from the belief that people only voted for Obama because he spoke eloquently. So there's this kind of bitterness and this comeuppance attached like, "Oh, you thought he was such an eloquent speaker, but he can only talk when he uses a teleprompter!" It's silly because it's a response to a strawman supporter of Obama.

Mordy, Monday, 1 February 2010 15:21 (fourteen years ago) link

Jay Leno: "Well, this is kind of embarrassing. At a speech to school kids in an elementary school in Virginia, President Obama used the teleprompter. He had a teleprompter set up to talk to the kids. The topic of the speech: Never taking the easy way out by bringing a cheat sheet to school."

Except he didn't use it to talk to the kids, only to the media after the event.

from Conservapedia_talk:Richard_Dawkins_Project, which is a whole thing in itself but this merits special attention in my opinion

Richard Dawkins clown song

Hi, I found this project after searching online for information about Dawkins, and when I saw your mention of Dawkins being a clown it reminded me of a little song me and some of the guys at church wrote last year! We wrote it on guitar and piano, but if any musicians out there would like to try their own arrangements, I'd love to hear them. How about a competetion with people uploading their versions here? Anyway, here are the words and chords:

* Verse 1
* (C)Most of us enjoy to rejoice in Christ
* (G)To open our hearts to Him and enjoy life
* (C)But some seem to hate God, and hate Christians too
* (F)Atheists ignore the Bible, (G)ignore that it's true!
* Chorus
* (C)Like Dawkins, the man is a (G)clown
* (C)Oh Dawkins, you do make us (G)frown
* (F)You promote your nonsense (C)and defend Hitler's crimes
* (G)But we reject you, and your (C)hate-filled types!
* Verse 2
* Evolution theories of accidental life
* With still no evidence, your theory's in strife
* Monkeys to men, but no transitional forms
* Give up on your worldview, and take Jesus' call!
* Repeat Chorus

I would like to contribute as much as possible to this project (as you can tell I don't support Dawkins and his views!), what are the top priorities?

I think my favorite part is the extremely edgy rhyming of "crimes" with "types," but "forms" and "call" is a close 2nd

Is the atheist Richard Dawkins a man filled with courage, truth, and conviction or a man who is a cowardly pseudo intellectual pantywaist?

I like the unnecessary contrast in "But we hate you" – although you support Hitler's crimes (??? btw), they still found a way to reject you.

I actually have a scientist friend who knows what some of my pet hates are and he was kind enough to design a little physio-cybernetic dooley-bob which we implanted in the back of my neck - if I ever even attempt to rhyme anything at all with "frown," the self-poisoning mechanism will kick in and I'll be dead in minutes. currently working on legislation to compel all singers & songwriters to undergo the procedure, it's for the good of all to be honest

xxxxp: What are your opinions on Nico?

kkvgz, Monday, 28 June 2010 10:34 (thirteen years ago) link

my opinion is that if the One Lord, Jesus Christ, eternally begotten Son of the Father, God from God, light from light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father, through Whom all things were made, were Himself to rhyme "clown/frown/down," it'd still be a lame rhyme that brings down any song in which it occurs and, indeed, makes me frown in any song in which it occurs

I hope this clarifies my position somewhat
