Last night's was dreadful. I was talking to people and doing stuff, only I didn't know what I was going to say or do. I was just SAYING or DOING! I'd walk up to someone and press "talk", and I'd say something entirely inappropriate, or walk up to an object and press "action" and in most cases the object would either rotate a bit or I'd pick it up and examine it.

It was like being stuck in Shenmue.

Most video game dreams are your brain madly practicing for what you've convinced it is an essential task!
I've had the Counterstrike one, and I've also had the dreaded TETRIS DREAM even though I was never super big on tetris.

oh yeah, i've definitely played entire games of tetris/lumines/katamari in my sleep.

When I was in full on QUAKE addiction in the mid nineties, I would consistently dream with the HUD emblazoned in my subconscious.

I've had a lot of dreams like the Zelda games where I die and then I just end up where I was before, and have the whole dream again only to die and start over once more, etc. It's really frustrating, and I wonder if in a world without video games would I have this terrible theme in my dreams? It's just like Zelda for the SNES, everything turns red and I fall down and start over, totally frustrated.

OMG. Last night I dreamt I had an Xbox and Outrun 2. I played the game through about three times in my dream (which is strange because, though I play the arcade quite a bit, I don't know all the forks) and when I woke up thought, "Right, one more game!"

I can't have one more game, because I don't have an Xbox OR Outrun 2 :(

I used to have Game Gear dreams like this years ago, where I'd wake up to find I couldn't complete Castle of Illusion because the console wasn't where I left it in my sleep.

last night i dreamt i was in a newsagents and they told me that production on all computer magazines was being stopped.

i think this dream relates to me way back to when Your Sinclair and things like that were being stopped and it marked the end of the Speccy age.

New Super Mario Bros is invading my dreamworld and it's always those bastard underwater levels.

We Love Katamari broke my personal record last week for the shortest time between purchasing a game and dreaming about it (12 hours).

I woke up from a dream to find myself poking the pillow with my finger and yelling "why won't you save God Damit!" I like to think I had spent the last few hours holding my pillow like a controller trying to control my dream.

I've been playing X3, which is like elite and has lots of trading in it. And last night I dreamt I was an interstellar antiques dealer, but that I had a time machine too. So my job consisted of buying various chairs and tables, hiding them in assorted pods scattered thorugh the galaxy, then jumping forward 300 years and going back to check whether any of them had become valuable yet.

JimD (JimD), Thursday, 17 August 2006 08:17 (seventeen years ago) link

oh man i am going to play x3 for the first time tonight. that dream makes me want to play it even more.

i haven't had a good dream in a while since my sleep schedule's been righted, but I used to have WoW dreams at least weekly (which made sense given the hours I played it). They usually involved a lot of people yelling into my ears without moving their mouths, which was the style at the time, since Ventrilo doesn't make your gnome's beard wobble.

Last night I dreamt that I was playing this text-input RPG (what do you call them?) where I was a plucky and inquisitive Italian supermodel skulking around a hotel/motel.

You see a door marked CUSTODIAN.

> open door

It's a custodian's closet. You see a towel on the ground.

> take towel

You pick up the towel, leave the closet, and make your way towards the lobby. You are standing at the top of a stairway that leads to the first floor.

> use towel on handrail

You put the towel on the handrail -- you can't be too careful about germs -- then proceed to slide down. "Wheee!" you squeal gleefully.

Next thing I know, the game's no longer text-based and I've become the character -- and I'm taking a shower with the towel.

I thought you couldn't read/write in dreams, coz it was a different part of the brain.

kingfish praetor (kingfish 2.0), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 20:02 (seventeen years ago) link

it's really tricky to read in dreams. i think most of the time you just 'think' you're reading but probably its just a load of squishy lines

thats my technical assessment anyway.

I have had a couple vague dreams involving Dead Rising. I think the Willamette shopping mall is kind of a haunting venue for a game -- you run through the exact same places so many times that a lot of its weird half-realistic features stick with you the way an actual place would.

nate p. (natepatrin), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 01:40 (seventeen years ago) link

I wasn't actually typing and reading the action on a screen -- instead, the game had very crude graphics: stick-figure-esque wire outlines of everything (e.g. the environment, the characters), except for the fully rendered towel!

Played Lego Star Wars II game last night until 2. Dreams were all in lego last night, I was creating new levels and everything. Very odd. When I woke up and did the usual snooze thing for a few minutes the dreams started again! Lego has replaced work hate, this is a good thing!

Last night I dreamt about Dead Rising, only instead of a mall it was in my secondary school and it was much more creepy and less bloody. I spent most of my time hiding in lockers from the fat lesbian cop. Come to think of it, it was sort of a Dead Rising/Metal Gear crossover dream.

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Monday, 9 October 2006 14:12 (seventeen years ago) link

the only thing i remember dreaming about last night is fighting some horrible half dog, half HL2 combine soldier, with my bare hands. it was brutal.

after playing counterstrike all day i was disappointed not to have dreamt up a lot more.

i think you had CS Overkill Mind Fatigue(tm).
that was one hell of a session you had yesterday, if your mind had even imagined/dreamed some CS, you would've melted. maybe.

teh_kit (g-kit), Monday, 9 October 2006 14:49 (seventeen years ago) link

monster space aliens instead of terrorists, multiple one shot kills ahoy, level maps based in supermarkets, all my CS dreams came in last night.
