The Tall Dwarfs covered "On and On and On." It is sublimely weird in its evocation of rock-star decadance without anything ever actually happening. (And Chris Knox is equally sublime in the way he sings "Over in the corner I could see this other guy/He was kinda flirty, he was giving me the eye/So I took advantage of the fact that I'm a star/Shook my hair and took a casual stroll up to the bar."

I do have problems seeing ABBA as a drugs band, but...

Anyway, great song. One of their best. Particularly pre-"The Visitors"

Good suggestion, but I don't think Eddie The Eagle had started his ski jumping career yet in 1977 ;)

Of course, it could be an allegory on how Nazi Germany started.

I've never really liked the "candles round the campfire" version of Abba.

alan partidge named hi son after it, that's the only thing that's
good about abba's FERNANDO.

pisces (piscesx), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 17:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Some days I think "Fernando" sucks, but some days misguided nostalgia makes me like it. I think it actually has nice, warm moments in amongst the suck.

Napoleon actually surrendered in Rochefort. Song was originally called "Bellerophon" but Benny pointed out to Stig that this didn't have quite the same ring (ring).

In 'ABBA The Movie', 'Eagle' is played when Ashley the DJ is interviewing the band in a hotel elevator. So maybe it's about hotboxing?
