Cadence/New Porno in Western Canada token non-shocka.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 6 July 2006 19:38 (seventeen years ago) link

I want none of those people to win.

Okay, take it back-- even though I don't like the album, Owen should win for his morsel of vertically-composed cloudy poo.

trees (treesessplode), Thursday, 6 July 2006 20:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Thank you, Trees. Also, the version of the album you downloaded was unmixed.

If "He Poos Clouds" wins, I'm founding a new award with the prize money. It's called the "Rogers Wireless Biggest Tits in Canada" award. I'm writing the mission statement right now.

But my money is on Metric. Cadence Weapon 1st runner up.

Owen Pallett (Owen Pallett), Friday, 7 July 2006 05:17 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah, maybe i should try to get another version? yes. i will.

trees (treesessplode), Friday, 7 July 2006 05:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Okay, and I take constructive criticism. Happy downloading.

Owen Pallett (Owen Pallett), Friday, 7 July 2006 05:36 (seventeen years ago) link

i mean, i know someone who actually bought it. i can listen to it at their place.

trees (treesessplode), Friday, 7 July 2006 05:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, Metric to win, they're very popular. HIGH SCHOOL KIDS LIKE 'EM! And not even, like, high school kids who try to sneak in to bars. I'm talking about High School Kids who enjoy being High School Kids!
I think Sarah Harmer for 2nd, because she's even more popular, but a lot less cool, but still sort of, I don't know, FEMALE.

JURY OF DELIRIOUS CRITICS GIVES 20K TO D&D STRING QUARTET ALBUM WITH A VULGAR TITLE AND ZERO PUBLICITY, RELEASED BY A TRADEMARK-BAITING BAND ON A WORKER'S CO-OP!

I swear, Canada is paradise. Rollie you're totally getting some pop tracks for this.

Owen Pallett (Owen Pallett), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 19:36 (seventeen years ago) link

After seeing your first post-polaris show last night, I was disappointed that there was no announcement of the Biggest Tits in Canada nominees.

Quinn (quinn), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 20:45 (seventeen years ago) link

There is already a winner! But it's a secret for now.

Heh, this thread.

Fucked Up won this year then. Woop. Checking out Malajube as I type - based on one listen of this and the FU album, Labyrinthes is a more worthy victor, perhaps?

enjoyed Destroyer, Stetson and Braids the most out of these. in fact I love all three of em to bits.

I'm A Genius, Too! (Jamie_ATP), Sunday, 10 July 2011 17:34 (twelve years ago) link

I predict either Arcade Fire or Stetson, on basis of what I've heard and read (if unusually prominent and consistently favorable coverage of bass sax helps; plus status guests like Laurie Anderson). Unless there's a reaction against that sort of thing? Why did Neil's Neily-as-hell hippy-dippy solo set (which at least flaunts his still-robust electric guitar chops) get cut from the short list?

dow, Sunday, 10 July 2011 18:22 (twelve years ago) link

Even though it was recorded and mixed in realtime by Lanois!

dow, Sunday, 10 July 2011 18:23 (twelve years ago) link

I predicted Stetson FTW back when the longlist came out. really hoping he takes it, his recent show here was Herculean.

THIS IS SATIRE BTW (Simon H.), Sunday, 10 July 2011 18:28 (twelve years ago) link

In addition to Judges, Colin played sax on both the AF and Timber Timbre records.

Boehner & der club of GOP (Ówen P.), Sunday, 10 July 2011 18:43 (twelve years ago) link

I'm preditcing either Stetson or Destroyer as the winners, with Hey Rosetta and The Weeknd as other possibilities.

MarkoP, Sunday, 10 July 2011 18:46 (twelve years ago) link

having arcade fire win this would risk total irrelevance, such an imperceptibly faint addition to their earlier victories, like no one might even notice

nicki minaj - superb ass (flopson), Sunday, 10 July 2011 19:26 (twelve years ago) link

Young Galaxy is my favourite off the longlist that I've heard, disappointed it's not made the shortlist.

ha ha ha ha jack my swag (boxedjoy), Sunday, 10 July 2011 21:00 (twelve years ago) link

2015 long-list is out. Is it always so indie-heavy? Don't have much to say about these because (like most people probably) I've only heard a few of these. Of the ones I've listened to I like Absolutely Free, Cold Specks, Frazey Ford and Milk & Bone but I can't see any of them winning. I think Buffy will get it (haven't heard it btw).

Absolutely Free - Absolutely Free.
The Acorn - Vieux Loup
Lydia Ainsworth - Right From Real
Alvvays - Alvvays
Arkells - High Noon
Rich Aucoin - Ephemeral
BADBADNOTGOOD & Ghostface Killah - Sour Soul
Bahamas - Bahamas Is Afie
The Barr Brothers - Sleeping Operator
Braids - Deep in the Iris
Steph Cameron - Sad-Eyed Lonesome Lady
Caribou - Our Love
Jazz Cartier - Marauding in Paradise
Jennifer Castle - Pink City
Cold Specks - Neuroplasticity

Death From Above 1979 - The Physical World
Drake - If You're Reading This It's Too Late
Frazey Ford - Indian Ocean

Bernice, CFCF and The Weather Station are all shoo-ins for inclusion I'm guessing, but most of the others are unknown to me

Klô Pelgag and (especially) Big Brave are both stan-worthy.

I've only heard Cadence Weapon, Rochelle Jordan, and Mustafa. I'm rooting for Mustafa personally.

I'd love to see Big|Brave take it, has a metal / heavy rock act ever won?

intern at pelican brief consulting (Simon H.), Wednesday, 16 June 2021 15:24 (two years ago) link

I see Fucked Up managed it back in 2009, but that's it.

Vile Creature deserve a long lost nom at least

This Is Not An ILX Username (LaMonte), Wednesday, 16 June 2021 15:26 (two years ago) link

Zoon, Dorothea Paas and Fiver's records are all highly recommended. Personally rooting for Cadence Weapon to win it, great album
