hey jay, didn't realize you haunted these parts.

CT-MTL is 5-6 hours + random wait at the border I believe. No big deal for a tour drive.

HOLY CRAP THE DRUMMER! And the multitasking!

Good stuff. Reminiscent of "Welcome To The Machine" & "Tom Sawyer" @ times (in the good "no Waters, no Geddy" way).

Like I ever doubted you, Maria! :)

Granted, it would've been better w/out the asshats around me being all teenagery via A) ironically head-banging (that is, banging head to the rawk, then turning to friend to see if they are appreciating the headbanging, and then STOPPING the headbanging once the novelty wore off) (same dude also worked some dumbass chin-stroking gesture) (I hate drunk 10 year olds) and B) imitating the kewl synth tones (cf. when the dude's tuning his bass to his synth, and the asshat w/ broken glasses behind me mimics the tone) (bass dude picked up on it, tho - "That's our show - goodnight!"). Please note that these folks seemed to be part of the same clique. I hate people. Zombi was cool, though (as was Apse, the group that preceded them - dunno if they're touring w/ Zombi) (2 drummers!).

Whats the tracklisting for the Twilight Sentinel ep?

Rake, Sunday, 3 April 2005 01:53 (nineteen years ago) link

four months pass...
just came back from seeing zombi in baltimore. these guys are excellent live. they played mostly cosmos stuff, but a few tracks from the EPs (newly collected on limited edition anthology cds! get yrs today!!), and then closing with that fucking awesome first track from cosmos. my friend tells me theyve been doing some italo-disco stuff lately, as they follow precisely in simonetti's footsteps. the drummer told me the 12" material theyve recorded should be out in november, and i cant wait.

by the way, to answer rake's almost-5-month-old question, the twilight sentinel tracklisting is thus:
1. sequence 8 (alt. version) [this is a re-recorded version of a song from the original zombi EP.]
2. gemini, part 2
3. twilight sentinel
4. dmc-12, (10 minutes of silence), green earrings (steely dan cover)

anyway, great show, great band, cant wait to see what they do next.

they were great last night, and the tour-only EP has one of the italo tracks, called "sapphire," and it's totally unstoppable. also, they used the i-robots comp as their pre-show music and i was dancing like an idiot.

Does anyone else find it truly weird that ZOMBI are associated with all of these terrible metal bands? They're proggy, yeah, but they're definitely more Vangelis and late-period Tangerine Dream than Dream Theater or Isis. Cuz I find it totally fucking weird.

14 July 2006:
ZOMBI "SURFACE TO AIR" PREORDER NOW AVAILABLE
From today on we are accepting preorders for the long awaited and highly acclaimed ZOMBI "Surface To Air" LP. For this preorder we've set a special price of 10 euro. Only the first 100 preorders will be receiving COLORED VINYL. The album comes in a deluxe gatefold cover and is printed on high quality thick vinyl.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Thursday, 20 July 2006 12:32 (seventeen years ago) link

Thrones were very unengaging. Some interesting things going on in places, but the sound balance wasn't right and one of the amps blew up early on. On one song, even Joe seemed completely bored and just fiddled with his pedals for a bit rather than interact with what was going on.

You may have already heard Steve Moore's work as one-half of the unbelievably awesome prog-rock instrumental duo Zombi, or through his phenomenal first solo-album called "The Henge" (Relapse/Static Caravan, 2007). Now Moore gives us "Demo 2003," a re-issue of his first solo recordings from the turn of the millenium. In contrast to Zombi's tightly structured progressive epics, "Demo 2003" is an exploratory, psychedelic meditation. Over the course of its 10 tracks, including the previously unreleased "Fever Dream", "Demo 2003" explores psychedelic paths through dark atmospheres and drifting harmonies. Smaller in scale than "The Henge," these tracks document Moore's initial fascination with analog synthesizers, focusing more on experimental timbres and droning ambience than on composition or form. This is why this long-player becomes the soundtrack of the mind. It is paranoid, monumental music that hypnotizes the listener with an unholy mix of gloomy, nightmarish, electronic ambiences and the neverending and almighty cosmic beauty.

Press Release:

Pittsburgh progressive duo Zombi has released a free digital EP featuring the track "Slow Oscillations" as well as four fan-made remixes of the song. The remixes were hand-picked by the group as part of a Self-Titled Magazine contest and include a version by Ipecac recording artist, Dälek. The EP is currently available for free download exclusively via Amazon MP3 at this location http://amzn.to/pDlLf6.

"Slow Oscillations" is taken from Zombie's fourth full-length album, Escape Velocity, which was released this past May and can currently be streamed via their Bandcamp page here http://zombi.bandcamp.com/.

Steve Moore's new album as Lovelock ('Burning Feeling') is killing me softly right now - had heard/liked some stuff beforehand but it works super well as an album

it's a lot more pop/dancefloor/space disco than Zombi but there's still tons of sweeping synths and what have you

Anybody else listen to Steve Moore's latest solo album Light Echoes? It's similar to the glacially paced cosmic ambience of the rest of Steve Moore's solo stuff (which is all pretty incredible IMO, especially Primitive Neural Pathways) but for some reason this one hits me a little more than rest...particularly the huge closing track Ancient Shorelines II.

Non-Stop Erotic Calculus (bmus), Thursday, 1 November 2012 17:01 (eleven years ago) link

Man I've missed out on that one. Also new Majeure on its way, as well as Umberto (who's obv not related except in spirit.)

WARS OF ARMAGEDDON (Karaoke Version) (Sparkle Motion), Thursday, 1 November 2012 17:10 (eleven years ago) link

A new Majuere is very welcome. I think that their first one competes with much of the Zombi discography, except for maybe Surface to Air which I think is Zombi's pinnacle so far.

Non-Stop Erotic Calculus (bmus), Thursday, 1 November 2012 17:32 (eleven years ago) link

I rate Cosmos above all, maybe because it's the one I heard first. Funny that I listen to Timespan & PNP alot more than the last proper Zombi record though. Escape Velocity was less satisfying because it ended up just sounding like a sampler of the solo stuff. Also maybe I'm just expecting more prog when they work together as well.

So there is a new Majeure album out...and it's pretty good. I'm not sure how it stacks up with Timespan which I loved. I thought that even the Timespan remix album was pretty incredible. I need more time with Solar Maximum but for the most part it's pretty much an extension of the first one.

not as good as timespan imo but timespan is so so great. still a darn good record tho. also the 'synthesizer of the gods' ep is top hole

i'd like to hear them both extend themselves a bit more on their solo stuff. surely moore has another 'henge' (in spirit if not necessarily in sound) in him somewhere

boo-hoo-ty sapperticker (electricsound), Tuesday, 11 December 2012 23:00 (eleven years ago) link

I agree, Timespan would be awfully hard to match.

Henge certainly is great. Definitely one of the only albums out of this genre to legitimately scare me. Not that that is the ultimate goal here. But I think it even has a jump-scare moment in there somewhere.

I haven't heard Synthesizer of the Gods. That's a Majeure EP?

The new Steve Moore album Beloved Exile is good in general but I especially love the last track, “My Time Among the Snake Lords,” and how it shapeshifts seamlessly throughout - I think it might be the longest solo track he’s recorded? I may be wrong.
