Kids, the first single off her new album is actually very good. I thought the Inc. signing was a puzzling experiment, but it doesn't seem to have affected her at all, stylistically at least.

I thought her last album was pretty ok. Pharrel Williams does backing vocals for one of the songs.

I heard one of her new songs ("Dear California") over the in-store play in Barnes & Noble just now and my first impression is that it reminded me in a pleasant way of 2nd or 3rd album Liz Phair.

i also really love the blown out full band outro of "future pain." that song really gets to me for some reason. "turn down the lights / drink enough until we see each other right / this place won't bite but it won't save you either / we're going down tonight" - good lyric, great delivery

not sure how "the only way to love"'s lyric/sound/arrangement has the exact same shape of my experience of love, but it does

this album is giving me life.

"White Houses" is not just Vanessa's best song (per a recent Brad post elsewhere) but one of the best songs by anyone. That odd mixture of idiosyncracy, economy and generosity that typifies many of Taylor's best recent songs. It really feels like it tells a fully fleshed out story in less than 4 minutes, the narrator growing and learning before your ears.
