*but* i go for 'cowboys...'.

he gets an unbelievable lack of respect, usually from weeds who like ryan adams or whoever. i fckn love george.
'jesus to a child' is just about the saddest, most heartfelt song to get to number one ever, yet the like of n*ck h*rnby would probably think he wasn't for real enough, like he does in 'about a boy' over the pet shop boys. not that have read it.

george has just signed to SONY again. more pwer to him.

"Everything She Wants". The little descending bass bit after "somebody tell me" is just incredible. All downhill from there (though GM had many other fine moments)

Freedom 90, definitely. Piano slides, handclaps, lovely shuffly drums, echoey/gospel vocals - a great come-hither look from pop to house.

"Kissing a Fool" for vocal performance. "You Have Been Loved" for actual song quality. "Fastlove" for production

I guess "You Have Been Loved" is the overall choice here

one year passes...
Right now, today, "Cars and Trains". What an awesome song with a great vocal. The gyst: people make the same mistake over and over, slowing killing themselves (like throwing themselves under cars and trains, dig?) Plus he says "fuck" and refers to a guy who "gets laid, every day".

thirteen years pass...

The way the bridge in “Father Figure” dissolves after a few verses into an entirely different, more diffuse & complex bridge, is just so wonderful.
