I'm sure every anchorman in 1983 wished he had made that joke. Not that that's an excuse, just that he's nothing special for it.

This was in San Francisco, and unsurpisingly, the crowd was largely unamused, so I'd imagine he regretted it right after the punchline.

There's that bit in Roger & Me where the guy from the Newlywed Game tells some horrible joke too.
