why would you ruin bacon by putting it in a bloody mary

Vajazzle My Nazzle (HI DERE), Thursday, 21 January 2010 20:38 (fourteen years ago) link

isn't the internet-bacon fad over by now?

iatee, Thursday, 21 January 2010 20:39 (fourteen years ago) link

(don't mind me, I just hate bloody marys)

Dan, have you ever had a Bloody Bull?

I'm thinking about a hollandaise made with bacon grease instead of butter.

Jaq, Thursday, 21 January 2010 20:41 (fourteen years ago) link

No. Does it involve tomato juice in any way, shape or form? If it does, that's kind of a massive no-go for me.

i mean, my love for the taste of bacon was never about what was popular, iirc.

right, but there's a difference between liking bacon and drinking a bacon bloody mary

iatee, Thursday, 21 January 2010 20:42 (fourteen years ago) link

It seems a bloody bull is sort of the same concept. It is made with beef bouillon, which seems grosser than bacon infused vodka because it would be more overpowering. The bacon vodka is subtle in flavor and I am betting the beef bouillon is pretty strong. I would try it, of course. I am not hating on meat flavors in a tomato based drink.

Kelsey Glamour (Nijoli), Thursday, 21 January 2010 20:46 (fourteen years ago) link

Yes, it does, Dan. Fwiw, I am not a tomato juice hater and rather a gazpacho fan, but I never get my bloody anythings on the rocks; I always get them strained so no ice cubes can't melt and make it watery.

Nijoli, it's actually not so very strong a flavor and its quite restorative if you like that sort of thing.

I like that sort of thing.

Wow! I found a tarragon/bacon hollandaise recipe that sounds like something I want to try.

Bacon's great and all but just give me some pork belly or maybe, some guancia.

Most pork/bacon used in a dish

i assume this is quantity used in total and not % of dish that is bacon because couldn't you just serve bacon and say 'hey my dish is ALL pork!'?

The best dessert I have ever had in my long dessert-eating life was a petite granny smith apple pie topped with a tiny scoop of creme fraiche and a thick slice of candied, crushed pecan coated bacon.

Candied bacon fudge sounds wonderful.
