OK minutemen were a band on SST who released the best alb evah (OK maybe not but it's a v v good rec) ('Double nickels on the dime'). the other band is a recent thing and I heard one single which I thought was a joke (in a bad way).

I shoot down: Chackha Khan (occasional good stuff w/ Rufus doesn't excuse dreary solo career), Motorhead (like the occasional song, but too repetitive for me to LOVE 'em), Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Britney Spears, Bon Jovi, and for what it's worth Gene Loves Jezebell and Queen.

Now, if we assume that dave225 wasn't serious about not liking all candidates xcept James Brown (tho he could be, correct me if I'm wrong dave) that leaves us with:

Sorry Ned, but my Rolling Stones comment was directed at AlexinNYC, who developed the "recording of crap=disqualified" rubrick. His nomination of the Rolling Stones is *his* contradiction (since he doesn't deny they've put out tons of embarassing shit). I wouldn't disqualify the Stones on those grounds, but Alex should have. I disqualify the Stones on the grounds that they really just aren't that fantastic, even at their peak. I don't love them. I'm sure there's plenty of people here who hate them.

It is hard to understand, actually. Is it because it's "before your era" or something? Might it be that you simply haven't heard *ENOUGH* music that was recorded prior to 1990? Also, it's not like 1990 was some crucial watermark year like 1969 or 1977 (or ever 1994). Why 1990?
