Big Sexy Land at The Phoenix tonight, anyone? (yus, it's moved from the albany)

CharlieNo4, Friday, 11 May 2007 10:49 (sixteen years ago) link

which is the phoenix again?

and whats wrong with the albany:/

696, Friday, 11 May 2007 10:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Nothing is wrong with the Albany!

braveclub, Friday, 11 May 2007 11:05 (sixteen years ago) link

exactly!

696, Friday, 11 May 2007 11:27 (sixteen years ago) link

BSL folk got fed up with the Albany booker being flakey and repeatedly double-booking apparently.

The Phoenix is aces though - it's on Cavendish Square, sort of behind the Zara that's by Oxford Circus.

CharlieNo4, Friday, 11 May 2007 11:30 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah the Phoenix is good, has a nice big area downstairs for dancing. I might be up for that after the Pakenham maybe.

Matt DC, Friday, 11 May 2007 11:47 (sixteen years ago) link

and so...

CharlieNo4, Friday, 11 May 2007 15:43 (sixteen years ago) link

four months pass...

hello london

is anyone dancing between Oct 23 and November 4th? what should a mongrel be making sure to do?

energy flash gordon, Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:06 (sixteen years ago) link

October 25 - Heinrick Schwarz (Live), Ame and Dixon at Plastic People. Considering taking the following day off.

Matt DC, Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:15 (sixteen years ago) link

ooh. the only thing I have pencilled in already is James Murphy disco set at Fabric the same night though! if Schwarz is on late would be worth trying for a double.

energy flash gordon, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:18 (sixteen years ago) link

eleven months pass...

quick, where can i take my aussie friend for some "underground" clubbing action tonight? last year we went to some random drum n bassy night at some dodgy looking club in elephant, but it was advertised in time out and it was full of skinny white indie kids so that's the level of "underground" we're talking really.

ledge, Saturday, 13 September 2008 16:48 (fifteen years ago) link

i had pencilled this in but it's been cancelled.

ledge, Saturday, 13 September 2008 16:49 (fifteen years ago) link

I think theres a Feeling Gloomy with Jarvis DJing.

Doghouse O RLY (G00blar), Saturday, 13 September 2008 17:04 (fifteen years ago) link

wow this thread goes back some!

lex pretend, Saturday, 13 September 2008 17:12 (fifteen years ago) link

(i have no idea what's happening tonight, my legs are still sore from executing some hardcore dance moves at night slugs last night and i don't intend to go raving again)

lex pretend, Saturday, 13 September 2008 17:14 (fifteen years ago) link

FABRIC (maybe)

Local Garda, Saturday, 13 September 2008 17:17 (fifteen years ago) link

ame and dixon! fabrique does indeed look good tonight.

ellen allien on the 27th too...

CASSY AND JUS ED ON 11 OCTOBER! i think i might work towards that one

lex pretend, Saturday, 13 September 2008 17:27 (fifteen years ago) link

fabric a little too overground i think. and feeling gloomy too gloomy. thx anyway. might head to the t bar as it's free and i like the venue.

one year passes...

I realize that midnight Saturday is the single worst time to post to this thread but...I am in town in a few weeks. Where is fun to go right now?

Henry's Hepcat (admrl), Saturday, 14 August 2010 23:07 (thirteen years ago) link

i wanna hear what ppl say! i dont go out dancing enough any more

just sayin, Sunday, 15 August 2010 01:37 (thirteen years ago) link

I am also keen to hear good ideas for the next few weeks. And already looking at Tim Sweeney & Tim Goldsworthy at Plastic People on the 27th.

Teddybears.SHTML (sic), Sunday, 15 August 2010 07:16 (thirteen years ago) link

in the absence of actual Londoner advice, I'm kinda looking at:

Kode 9 and Night Slugs ppl at FWD at Plastic People on Thursday
T&T at PP on Friday
DJ Yoda in a bowling alley on Saturday (more for drinking with friends and the bowling but still)
Roisin Murphy debuting a new "audiovisual" DJ/singing set at a drag club on Sunday night
and maybe a rave in a car-park afterwards with Michael Mayer, Joy Orbison, Thomas Fehlmann live, Claude VonStroke, Wighonomy Brothers, Scuba, Harri & Dom etc etc. Depending on exhaustion and Carnivalness.

when are you around adam?

Teddybears.SHTML (sic), Monday, 23 August 2010 17:24 (thirteen years ago) link

night slugs! they are always a good thing.

missed two gucci mane punchlines and had to rewind (c sharp major), Monday, 23 August 2010 17:30 (thirteen years ago) link

Got invited to that by the guys from Colony but can't make it - what's your playing name?

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 23 August 2010 18:14 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm coming up to Sud to see Boo Williams DJing in a couple of months, anyone going to that?

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 23 August 2010 18:15 (thirteen years ago) link

my djing name is my actual name, on the flyer

it's just an early set cuz i know the dudes running it and it's my bday weekend

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Monday, 23 August 2010 18:19 (thirteen years ago) link

i can vouch for everyone else on the bill, particularly jackmaster and slackk, being amazing

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Monday, 23 August 2010 18:20 (thirteen years ago) link

Doh! Should have used my noggin there, lol. Best of luck with it, it's looks like it should be a good one.

three weeks pass...

Meh.

Matt DC, Thursday, 16 September 2010 16:05 (thirteen years ago) link

Anyone planning on going to XOYO? The idea of it is great but the lineup looks... pretty underwhelming? For some reason virtually everything I want to go to is at Corscia Studios these days (namely THIS).

Matt DC, Thursday, 16 September 2010 16:07 (thirteen years ago) link

i want to go to that too.

nymphypnotik will be my last rave for a while tho, party conferences for the next 3 weeks :/

i'll go to xoyo when they put on a decent night, i guess.

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 29 September 2010 16:50 (thirteen years ago) link

oni ayhun & oneohtrix point never, and some other people, are playing XOYO in october. i'm looking fwd to it but doubt there'll be much dancing.

going to the phonica party @ corsica w/ henrik schwarz etc this saturday, and maybe the warm night next week too.

jabba hands, Wednesday, 29 September 2010 17:30 (thirteen years ago) link

are oni ayhun and oneohtrix point never touring together? cs I see oni is listed as playing glasgow the following night but there's no up to date show info on o.never's myspace

one year passes...

in my month here i haven't managed to get any dancing done because i haven't met anyone particularly into 'clubbing' and even if they were they all live miles away - so what are people's experiences of going out alone in london? a dumb question i know as i won't know how it'll work out for me until i try it, but i guess i'm looking for some kind of vague reassurance that it's a reasonable thing to do.

sunn :o))) (Merdeyeux), Friday, 21 October 2011 22:33 (twelve years ago) link

i went to fabric by myself once years ago and had a great time, but i was young and high on life, and drugs.

jabba hands, Friday, 21 October 2011 22:52 (twelve years ago) link

god I wish I still danced in London. All the nights I used to go to have now turned into touring deals and I never keep up with the cool stuff enough to know what I want to go to until it's already been. Sigh.

owenf, Friday, 21 October 2011 23:32 (twelve years ago) link

I have been to plastic people by myself and had a great time, and stayed at fabric by myself after my friend's friend realised he wasn't going to cop off with me and whined at her to leave, and had a moderate feeling of nagging emptiness

the men who glare at stoats (sic), Friday, 21 October 2011 23:39 (twelve years ago) link

Ivr been in london for a month and have gone out dancing three times no, plus a keith fullerton whitman show (in fact, I'm writing this on my way home from seeing kassem mosse). All of these have been slone, albeit never ambitious later than four type expeditions. Im very used to going out alone, though.

london dancing FAPfter party anyone?

Hills Like White Broncos (EDB), Saturday, 22 October 2011 02:12 (twelve years ago) link

Ugh, phone typos.
anyways, these were at plastic people and camp near old st. which have been comvenient bc. They're right by the bus stop that goes right to my place. I've been meaning to branch out (ie fabric, corsica studios) but I think I might still be a bit apprehensive about new places. Plus good events are so expensive.

Hills Like White Broncos (EDB), Saturday, 22 October 2011 02:25 (twelve years ago) link

Missed surgeon, cut hands, regis last night :,( so bummed out! How was the Keith Fullerton Whitman show?

Crackle Box, Saturday, 22 October 2011 09:32 (twelve years ago) link

EDB check out houseparty.org.uk for some of the more interesting London dance parties :-)

Crackle Box, Saturday, 22 October 2011 09:34 (twelve years ago) link

Wow, reading this thread is such a nostalgia trip, so many great nights.

Raving is an occasional treat rather than a regular thing these days but will be going to the Unabombers/Lowlife party at Corsica Studios next weekend. I basically only ever go to Corsica these days, but that's alright as it's basically the best venue in London.

Matt DC, Saturday, 22 October 2011 09:37 (twelve years ago) link

I'd like you to say KFW was terrible, I was planning on going and then only realised that today was the day at 11pm.

(although thanks EDB, yours is the kind of vague reassurance I feel I need before venturing out myself! Also helped by the fact that after well over a month of trying I finally have a smartphone and need never fear getting lost again [unless I lose the phone itself].)

sunn :o))) (Merdeyeux), Saturday, 22 October 2011 09:39 (twelve years ago) link

I'm sort of semi-tempted to go to Fabric in the middle of the afternoon today, just because we can.

Matt DC, Saturday, 22 October 2011 09:41 (twelve years ago) link

The KFW show was quite good, though the sets were all too short. Keith played for like 30-40 minutes. The other sets were like 20 minutes (what the hell is up with that?). I might be a bit biased, though, since I found a 10 pound bill on the floor that night.

Good to know about Corsica. Considering that Colony/Plex Suregeon, Traversable Wormhole, etc. thing, which would make me grateful if I am able to walk out of that party alive.

Heard from an unreliable source that Fabric is disappointing, but I want to see for myself. Thinking the upcoming Tectonnic night (scuba, addison groove, pinch) might be a good induction.

That and the *free* bicep night is basically what I've been working around.
