yeah...but i was thinking this was gonna be a really long term archive project so a bit disappointing at the small amount of shows

I've heard Dreamin' Man and it's pretty nice but nothing more. But maybe it will reveal more secrets next listening.

Maybe discs 13-25 will just cover '93-'97 (inc. complete Old Princeton Landings recordings, obv), who knows? But yeah, considering how everyone talks about that European tour with Pearl Jam in Shakey I'd be amazed if there's nothing released from it.

yeah, totally ... i mean, there are a ton of under-represented (and great) live bands/tours in Neil's career, esp. post 70s. Int'l Harvesters, Young & Restless, Mirror Ball Band .. . Trans Band, Shocking Pinks!

tyler, you might know: are there any performances of "Cortez" from 1976 that are long, say 20+ minutes? I have two 1976 shows, one from March in Paris and one from November in Chicago. He only plays "Cortez" at the first and it's an 8 minute version, in the same spirit as the album version. But did he ever really cut loose on "Cortez" in 1976?

i don't think so! All the ones I've heard don't stretch past 10 minutes. even the 1976 version of Cowgirl in the Sand is on the shorter side. but that is definitely one of my fave periods for Neil's guitar playing all the same. not a single note wasted, perfect Zuma tone.

closest comparison to neil's guitar in 1976 would have to be tom verlaine, actually!

huh, I need to listen to those shows more closely then. There's a ten+ minute "Down By The River" on the Paris show, and a 12 minute "Like A Hurricane" on the Chicago show. But o/w the songs don't reach epic liftoff.

Japanese shows are probably the best of that year ... I'll get around to posting some of those soon!

"perfect!"

honestly I'm kinda amazed his voice sounds so unchanged after all these years

Here is a tasty coconut. Sorry for my earlier harshness. (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 19 May 2010 18:57 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah, compared to a lot of singers from his generation, he sounds pretty great. maybe neil was never a heavy smoker? of tobacco, that is?
