unicode characters was my fave but it got too difficult to keep up, i was just repeating the same ideas.

CATBEAST 7777 (ledge), Thursday, 14 January 2010 15:37 (fourteen years ago) link

with no titles the image speaks for itself, maaaan.

CATBEAST 7777 (ledge), Thursday, 14 January 2010 15:39 (fourteen years ago) link

I think playing safe with just a regular "this is what it is" title is better than overreaching for some comic effect or my own "say what you see" double-noun blankness. Also, I know my in-laws are now looking at our photostream, so "Fucking Menko" or "Shitstorm in a Piss Cup" are right out.

The Unicode era was great, Ledge.

Michael Jones, Thursday, 14 January 2010 15:40 (fourteen years ago) link

Ledge, during the Unicode era did you find yourself taking pictures just cos you knew you had characters to represent it?

tbh I have never said aloud "be told and get high on coconut," mostly because it would be weird to say

Left the turtle there ... but I live in a big apt complex, I figure he has an owner who grabbed him.

lol gbx it was just mock rage - I like phrasing things awkwardly

This hysteria over turtle abuse has to end. Statistically they're more likely to get molested by soldiers who are all gay now. I remember when you could kick a ball in the street etc

If you're going through someone's photostream, do you think it is a good idea to "introduce" yourself? I look at a lot of travel and architecture pictures, my idea of showing appreciation is to leave a compliment or star something. I hope that is enough, some people look awfully busy.

It used to drive me nuts when people put lots of sparkly comments and graphics all over good pictures. When an American does this I want to beat them over the head, but I'm more forgiving of Europeans, I think they do this because they don't all write in the same language?

Excellent angle!

Isn't there just! I don't mind the re-design. An option for a "classic view" would maybe be nice, possibly some minor customisation options for the photostream, but it certainly doesn't deserve the reaction it's had!

michaellambert, Monday, 20 May 2013 23:32 (ten years ago) link

a lot of people are appearing in my feed with images that say "flickr: born 2004, died 2013" etc.
people are crazy.

chinavision!, Monday, 20 May 2013 23:36 (ten years ago) link

It's the account changes that are frustrating; I quite like the redesign.

I am hedging my bets though, so let's see if I can embed a photo from 500px...

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 20:20 (ten years ago) link

what are people's complaints about the accounts change? do you have more than 1TB of photos?

eris bueller (lukas), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 20:40 (ten years ago) link

Mr Jones, would you recommend 500px?

not_goodwin, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 22:07 (ten years ago) link

Well, I've paid $25/year for 8 years for a Pro account. Now I can either let it lapse and get ads (I can ad-block, but ppl surfing my stream on a Guest Pass won't be) or pay twice as much for ad-free. Or just carry renewing the Pro account for as long as Yahoo decide to keep it going (it's not really part of the new structure). Bit annoying. A cheaper transition to Ad Free for long-term Pro users would've been nice.

xp - it seems quite nice, good blend of the new-style Flickr look with lots of text on the right. Don't fully understand the community aspect of it yet (one of my photos has a "pulse" of 52.6, whatever that means) but everything I've put up has a view or two.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 22:17 (ten years ago) link

i dont mind the layout, but its def making digging through 2000 photos of my photostream to find one specific photo pretty difficult compared to the old way

gr8080, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 16:33 (ten years ago) link

I'll complain a little now. for whatever reason no photostreams will load on my work computer (5 year old or so imac). don't know why.

chinavision!, Thursday, 23 May 2013 12:56 (ten years ago) link

like if i want to find a specific photo thats 1000 photos deep in my photostream, i used to be able to just skip to like page 20 or something and then click few a few more pages till i found it

with the new layout it seems like it gets really confused and the same photos show up on pages 14, 15, and 16

ʎqןıs (gr8080), Thursday, 23 May 2013 13:01 (ten years ago) link

I find my own stuff by searching mainly so I'm fine there, but otherwise these changes are getting worse and worse for me. My flickr experience involves lots of wordy stuff - descriptions and comments - which are now buried below the fold. Plus all the hierarchical organization things (sets and collections) which have been rendered more or less invisible. Even Facebook gets you to albums more easily. Ughhhhh.

| (Latham Green), Friday, 16 June 2023 13:56 (ten months ago) link

I feel bad that I don't use it. Mostly bad for myself since I still pay for pro, just to keep the archive... but I don't take proper photos any more and my drawings go on instagram.

ledge, Friday, 16 June 2023 15:30 (ten months ago) link

I'm still at it! My thing now is to polish off 'chunks' of uploads (alternating between friends/life and architecture tourism) and then hype those up with little ten-photo 'highlights' posts to Instagram. My Insta is private to friends only, so it's not like this is driving a ton of traffic... it's just to give me that feeling of sharing the pics with people in my circle.

got it in the blood, the kid's a pelican (Doctor Casino), Friday, 16 June 2023 16:00 (ten months ago) link

Still paying for it, still pretty happy there. 27.5k images and counting. I'm always 2-3 weeks behind with uploads, worse if I've just had a proper shoot (like a wedding, last weekend) which isn't going to primarily be shared through Flickr, but it keeps me off the streets. Insta (private) is still mostly Proper Camera, but quickly wifi'd to my phone and generally same day, if not instant. Flickr is usually a superset of the same images, just a lot later.
