the other day i was in the car for 5 minutes coming home from the store, and heard 3 MMTS songs on 3 different stations at the same time ("Say Aah" on the pop station, "Neighbors Know My Name" and I think "You Belong To Me" on the R&B station). I think even James was like 'enough with this fuckin guy already.'

what was that third one?

it's some non-single that D.C. stations play a lot (since he's from Virginia they treat him like a local hero and overplay everything he does), if i have the title right it's a bonus track on the deluxe edition of Ready but i'm not 100% sure that's it

the most important thing i learned when i interviewed Trey Songz was that the goofy ad lib that i thought was "C'MERE" is actually "C'MON"

actually in a way that fab verse is kind of perfect cuz it dates the song so heavily -- i could imagine hearing it in like three or four years and getting some kicks out of it

Fabulous has done guest raps on so many tracks I flat

"unusual" is really good, i thought - how is it out of place? it fits in perfectly with the ebbs and flows and drifts and drama of the last third.

yeah i tend to take a holistic view of the album rather than portioning it out to suit my r&b aesthete div needs. spoke of this at length on the rolling thread.

I think just the two note string riffs, pretty much! They really make it IMO (as a side-benefit rescue the post-"1 Thing" drumkit-falling-down-the-stairs beat).

I don't like it as much as "Blind" or "Can't Be Friends" say, but I'm a corny fuxx who always falls for tunes like those so that wasn't at all surprising.

Inept, yes, but I wouldn't think offensively so (then again I successfuly avoided "Over" so...). As I said, I'm surprised I really like it - in part because yeah it's a kind of nothing song with a kind of bad beat. The strings really lift it though I think.

Yes, though I'd say that's less corny (though more in line with industry-standard corniness I guess).

oh wait it's "unfortunate" that i really love! i like "unusual" - and indeed drake's verse - more than i thought i would and i don't think it's out of place, just wouldn't defend it as much as "unfortunate"

I love "Unfortunate" too but that and "Doorbell" are kinda predictably great. With "Unfortunate" I'd go so far as to say that the arrangement is so obviously awesome from the first second that the underperforming chorus is almost a let-down, but then that underperforming chorus is also kind of the point of the song and I don't know whether it would work with a big break-out moment.

Ever since someone suggested that the harmonies on "Bottoms Up" are "pure barbershop", I always envision a quartet of Treys with canes and pinstripe hats whenever I hear it.
