Figure this is my album of the year. Love 'em all. Still thinking...

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Friday, 1 January 2010 06:15 (fourteen years ago) link

"I never liked that sad look from someone who wants to be loved by you"

A™ machine (sic) (omar little), Friday, 1 January 2010 07:30 (fourteen years ago) link

Another vote for Dry and Dusty. Pleasantly surprised to see it getting so much love.

a black white asian pine ghost who is fake (Telephone thing), Friday, 1 January 2010 07:35 (fourteen years ago) link

This is fucking impossible.

Christyles, Friday, 1 January 2010 08:03 (fourteen years ago) link

Though I feel like I should represent for either Triangle Walks, Concrete Walls, I'm not done or Coconut.

Christyles, Friday, 1 January 2010 08:06 (fourteen years ago) link

seriously i don't even listen to this album as song after song, it just seems like a connected suite of moods that one passes through like a corridor without ever really realising when one ends and the next begins

so otm - just listened again and really unable to choose any one over the others. maybe not "coconut" - i often end with "keep the streets empty for me", which feels like perfect closure.

actually, it'd be between "if i had a heart", "seven", "triangle walks", "now's the only time i know" and "keep the streets empty for me".

lex pretend, Monday, 4 January 2010 11:00 (fourteen years ago) link

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Ooh wow... must vote soon.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Thursday, 7 January 2010 02:48 (fourteen years ago) link

'When I grow up' for me. I like when the guitar line comes in round the second verse and it makes the vocals soar softly above the persistent, sterile synths. Sort of reminds me of the kind of tricks Radiohead were pulling on amnesiac, which is quite fine in my book.

feisty, Spanish, girl (Moka), Thursday, 7 January 2010 05:32 (fourteen years ago) link

this is fucking impossible

spiny doughboy (baaderonixx), Thursday, 7 January 2010 07:17 (fourteen years ago) link

^^ what you said.

'Now's the only time I know' for the simple genius of the rhythm track and the perfectly placed bass countermelody that comes in before the second verse.

Cricket riding a tumbleweed (Plasmon), Thursday, 7 January 2010 09:02 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah tempted to go with that one

bu this pretty much sums it up:

seriously i don't even listen to this album as song after song, it just seems like a connected suite of moods that one passes through like a corridor without ever really realising when one ends and the next begins

spiny doughboy (baaderonixx), Thursday, 7 January 2010 15:12 (fourteen years ago) link

"Now's The Only Time I Know" is the only song I can't remember by looking at the title, yet I am certain I love every song on this album.

ah ah oh ooh ooh oh ah ah ah ah ah oh ah ah aha ooh (HI DERE), Thursday, 7 January 2010 15:28 (fourteen years ago) link

oh duh, just started it and yes this song is fucking great, probably my dark-horse contender to "Dry and Dusty"

ah ah oh ooh ooh oh ah ah ah ah ah oh ah ah aha ooh (HI DERE), Thursday, 7 January 2010 15:29 (fourteen years ago) link

xp here's a reminder then

spiny doughboy (baaderonixx), Thursday, 7 January 2010 15:32 (fourteen years ago) link

I will say that "If I Had A Heart" is one of the best album openers ever recorded.

ah ah oh ooh ooh oh ah ah ah ah ah oh ah ah aha ooh (HI DERE), Thursday, 7 January 2010 15:33 (fourteen years ago) link

i still can't decide

if i knew how to make sockpuppets i'd create ten of them to vote for each song

i'm going to not vote coz i can't choose

Karen Tregaskin, Thursday, 7 January 2010 15:34 (fourteen years ago) link

Use a random number generator!

ah ah oh ooh ooh oh ah ah ah ah ah oh ah ah aha ooh (HI DERE), Thursday, 7 January 2010 15:35 (fourteen years ago) link

the ones i'm not considering - "when i grow up", which as a single i found underwhelming; "concrete walls", which is great but more of a transition mood piece; "coconut", which i rarely listen to because "keep the streets empty for me" is such a perfect, perfect song and closer

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 January 2010 15:38 (fourteen years ago) link

I tend to agree with you, although sometimes I think 'Concrete Walls' is my fave, until the next song starts that is.

spiny doughboy (baaderonixx), Thursday, 7 January 2010 15:43 (fourteen years ago) link

"Concrete Walls" was the other song I was considering picking until I was reminded of exactly which song "Now's The Only Time I Know" was.

ah ah oh ooh ooh oh ah ah ah ah ah oh ah ah aha ooh (HI DERE), Thursday, 7 January 2010 15:44 (fourteen years ago) link

while we're here i really need to draw everyone's attention to the martyn remix of "seven"

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 January 2010 15:46 (fourteen years ago) link

i think i have it narrowed down to dry and dusty or keep the streets empty

Karen Tregaskin, Thursday, 7 January 2010 15:47 (fourteen years ago) link

that was the hardest sophie's choice i've had to make on an album but keep the streets empty for me

just for all those is that a theremin or guitar feedback or a flute or SPOOKY SCANDINAVIAN GHOSTS noises in the background

Karen Tregaskin, Thursday, 7 January 2010 15:54 (fourteen years ago) link

i think i'm changing my vote to 'seven' based on how she sang this part live:

I know it, I think I know it from a hymn
They've said so, it doesn't need more explanation
A box to open up with light and sound
Making you cold
Very cold

A™ machine (sic) (omar little), Thursday, 7 January 2010 18:59 (fourteen years ago) link

Arrrrrghhh way too hard. I'm gonna just go for the awesomely evil opener.

smothered in country gravy (Whitey on the Moon), Thursday, 7 January 2010 19:05 (fourteen years ago) link

Fuck i know i've voted on this but i can't remember which track i voted for.

Christyles, Thursday, 7 January 2010 22:14 (fourteen years ago) link

voted I'm Not Done over Concrete Walls. Maybe my favorite album last year, which is odd since initially i placed it several notches below Silent Shout.

Cosmo Vitelli, Thursday, 7 January 2010 22:55 (fourteen years ago) link

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Friday, 8 January 2010 00:01 (fourteen years ago) link

These results make really good sense, I like the voting spread!

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Friday, 8 January 2010 00:46 (fourteen years ago) link

this poll=dumb

the album=awesome

Moles Rad (Moles_Read), Friday, 8 January 2010 01:48 (fourteen years ago) link

Now's the Only Time I Know is really good why'd it get last :(

bread has no effect on you (ciderpress), Friday, 8 January 2010 02:01 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah, that was the big surprise to me - figured Now's the Only Time I Know would at least place about I'm Not Done and maybe Coconut.

Alex in Montreal, Friday, 8 January 2010 05:09 (fourteen years ago) link

This track is probably just loved most by people who don't vote on polls imo.

StanM, Friday, 8 January 2010 05:23 (fourteen years ago) link

forgot to vote :-(

spiny doughboy (baaderonixx), Friday, 8 January 2010 07:13 (fourteen years ago) link

two years pass...

Has anyone noted what seems to be a direct reference in 'Keep the Streets Empty for Me' to the awesome 60s psych track 'We are the Moles'?

The relevant Moles lyric: 'Hiding our faces/Revealing our souls'

Top two choices OTM; Personally I fluctuate between both being my favourite tracks depending on the occasion. "Concrete Walls" is too low in this poll though

Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Tuesday, 30 May 2017 00:16 (six years ago) link

Fever Ray would be a great contributor to Handmaid's Tale's soundtrack.

This album sounding reeeeeal good through nice headphones while walking the dog and a little stoned last night.
