Ever get this sensation?

Lately I wonder if I keep doing this thing as it is all I know, my only source of income, or just part of my personality. Then I think, perhaps to want to quit is defeatism or negativity.

Or perhaps I am jaded and bored with this.

Any similar experiences?

scourage, Friday, 28 September 2007 11:56 (sixteen years ago) link

I thought you were banned? Is there to be no respite?

I didn't think there was a zing in the exchange, that's why I questioned it.

kv_nol, Friday, 28 September 2007 12:00 (sixteen years ago) link

I think jaymc's saying Ronan might have mentioned writing about music once or twice?

jaymc not knowing something about you is a zing in itself, I suppose...

onimo, Friday, 28 September 2007 12:01 (sixteen years ago) link

I suppose... Still a beat of a stretch though. Clearer zings in future please people.

kv_nol, Friday, 28 September 2007 12:02 (sixteen years ago) link

If it's quality zings you want, here's an absolute peach from AAD:

----------------

While I appreciate the zest implied by your choice of punctuation, I was hoping for something more codswalloping, such as "M. White serves his guests lower-mid-range California chardonnay at 42 degrees, in hopes that their tongues will be too deadened by cold to detect the overly-oaky front end and the pronouncedly-grassy finish. Plus his off-the-shelf Fruit-of-the-Loom undergarments are more dullish than dazzling."

This sort of thing makes him snort like an irritated goat.

How bout: "Aimless's teh topdog M.white's teh fagtog"

-- Heave Ho, Tuesday, 21 August 2007 21:08 (1 month ago) Link

This comes distressingly close to disproving the contention that brevity is the soul of wit.

SUIT TWO "I don't know, Quispian, but he seems a bit too clever, he's got opinions and things and he seems pro-drugs. An association with him might mean we sell less Corrs albums"

SUIT ONE "I like the Corrs"

SUIT TWO "So do I"

SUIT ONE "I know lets get some no-brainer no-talent idiots and get them to do something similar but less contravesial. Dumb it down a bit too so Joe CreditDetails doesn't have to think about the content"

SUIT TWO "Bonza idea, Quispian, now lets load up on rohypnol, go down the Met bar and indulge in some fcuk alcopops and date rape"

SUIT ONE "Excellent, I've not done that for a few hours . . . "

Oh for fuck sake, ignoring the fact that any parody of "those fat cat record execs" is about as interesting as painting skirting boards white, the Audio Bullys are house, the Streets aren't. So if you don't like that that's fine but spare us these constant bullshit comparisons with acts from totally different genres who also happen to have a fucking London accented MC. I mean this must be the 10th time! AUDIO BULLYS ARE HOUSE, HENCE THE 4/4, and though I don't think there's anything fucking controversial about the Streets in the first place I resent the suggestion that a totally different act is somehow dumbed down just cos you don't like them. Apples and oranges.

It's fascinating that expensive chart-aimed male hip-hop almost always reserves the amount of emotion Kanye expends on Jay-Z for songs about mamas or baby mamas. This kind of conflicted guy-on-guy thing is unusual.

When the "Matthew Perpetua has never heard any music by black people" wikipedia was pointed out to me the other day, I had this really conflicted reaction, half "what the fuck, what an asshole, since when do I not listen to music by black people" and "ha, that's a pretty funny bit of assholery."

I did go to Parsons, though.

While it's possible to cherry-pick exceptions ever since, Frere-Jones does so selectively, overlooking the likes of Royal Trux or the Afghan Whigs in the 1990s,

why do I suspect that if this line had come from the SFJ article he'd presently be getting raked both ways over the coals for citing Royal Trux as counterexample to the "does not swing" trend
