Yeah, Emerlist Davjack is great! Also, that Yardbirds B-side, 'Psycho Daisies' is a CORKER IIRC.

Nice work everyone, just wish I had the opportunity to download 'em all :o(

NickB (NickB), Friday, 28 October 2005 07:29 (eighteen years ago) link

just seen the modified dates on those files mike. nice to know i wasn't the only one... 8)

oh, and
121. The Versalites - Cutting rasor + Black belt Jones (DL INTERNATIONAL)

should be

121. The Versatiles/Lee Perry - Cutting Razor + Black Belt Jones

(7" of which is currently selling for 70 euros in places... but also on Kung Fu Meets The Dragon, Lee Perry cd)

koogs (koogs), Friday, 28 October 2005 07:44 (eighteen years ago) link

ah, that emerlist davjack thing of mike's is different from the one listed. in the show he was talking to nina and her band about it and he'd provided some sort of advertising trailer for it which had later been pressed up as a very limited run of 7" singles for other djs.

(for a limited time only)

koogs (koogs), Friday, 28 October 2005 08:03 (eighteen years ago) link

I have the Some Chicken 7", and I've got La Peste on mp3, but I can't YSI it at the moment because my DSL is fucked at home. If it gets fixed today I'll try and send those when I get home.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Friday, 28 October 2005 09:41 (eighteen years ago) link

Some Chicken's been done, but La Peste would be great...

koogs: That trailer has clips of loads of different Nice songs, but more in their better-known prog-rock vein. Emerlist Davjack was their debut single, and hence more psychedelic pop.

If anyone's looking for Mike Spencer & The Cannibals, then be advised that the slow blues B-side "Nothing takes the place of you" was the track that Peel rated (and played to death in the late 70s). I seem to remember him dismissing the actual A-side as nothing special.

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Friday, 28 October 2005 09:58 (eighteen years ago) link

I thought only the A-side of Some Chicken had been done, but haven't reread the whole thread, so dunno.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Friday, 28 October 2005 10:23 (eighteen years ago) link

This is true. (Gawd, are we doing all the B-sides as well?!)

Including some too-obvious-to-YSI stuff (ie. Undertones), I've now got at least one track from 68 of the 130 singles listed (the other 12 being duplicate copies). That's 52%.

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Friday, 28 October 2005 10:51 (eighteen years ago) link

the b side of the max romeo single is The Upsetter - "Revelation dub" (i don't think that's clear above. it's on Arkology so shouldn't be too hard to find)

am surprised by the lack of Pavement (um, $30-80) and 'My Friend Jack" (eats sugarlumps? is it that one?)

the boards of canada 7" is $320 on gemm!
the revelino is 79p on amazon 8)

(80 tracks, 4 hours and a minute according to winamp)

koogs (koogs), Friday, 28 October 2005 14:24 (eighteen years ago) link

sorry for being so selfish but has someone got the boards of canada b-side chinook and can ysi it? i'd be interested as i love boc but only have the three albums and a couple of mp3s.

i'm convinced that the emerlist davjack trailer is the 7" in his box (because of the personal connection) so i have both that and the emerlist davjack mike posted (because its good). (i'll count them as one in the future, save any confusion). everything else matches.

No problem, Alex, I'm glad you're no longer disappointed... Any good record shops in Frankfurt (not that I'm anywhere near...)? I'll try to find more stuff and I hope there will be more activity on this thread. There's info on the actual TV show here (too bad I have no way of actually watching it): http://johnpeeleveryday.blogspot.com/

cristian ceia, Saturday, 29 October 2005 17:09 (eighteen years ago) link

i don't really go to record shops anymore, cristian. the ones i know in frankfurt are not amazing. there are two saturns (a big shop with zero record shop flair who has never what i am looking for or i don't know where to look for, the music i like usually belongs into at least three different genres) and there is one shop near the karstadt, smaller and nicer with a decent selection in indie and stuff. 2001 is good for cheap but mainly older rock, jazz and classical cds. there is also a wom, similar to the saturns. and there is a second hand shop in sachsenhausen and i think there are still some shops specialised in techno vinyls. i usually order my cds at amazon.

mippy, just go over to yousendit.com, enter an e-mail address to send the link to, choose the file from your hard disk and push "send it". The yousendit link which you can post here will appear after the song has been uploaded.

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Sunday, 30 October 2005 17:16 (eighteen years ago) link

forget my last post, mippy, i guess you need an mp3 edit program. probably the free software audacity could do the job.

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Sunday, 30 October 2005 18:33 (eighteen years ago) link

There are two 45min long files on one CD, so I'd need to edit them. I don't have a very good PC at home so this might not happen for a while...(not allowed to install things on work PC, you see...)

I work for the BBC but sadly no longer for a department that requires requesting records from the library. A lot of the stuff played on Peel wasn't kept in the BBC library anyway (I checked when working in radio to see if I could order a Bonnie Prince Billy record...)

Mippy (Mippy), Monday, 31 October 2005 10:32 (eighteen years ago) link

I'll be able to fill in a few of what appear to be gaps at some point but the route to me doing so will have to be me making a cd and then giving it to koogs, so it'll be slow.

Anyone looking for that "Hooten 3-Car" record might be helped by knowing that I strongly suspect that they were actually called Hooton 3-Car. It's the name of a particular train on the Merseyside metro, or something.

mja, Tuesday, 1 November 2005 13:57 (eighteen years ago) link

Wouldn't it would be preferable if it were the whole list (as opposed to the first 86) if you want to set up a torrent?

Stan Meissner, Tuesday, 1 November 2005 14:47 (eighteen years ago) link

Stan: Nope. What you do (and what I would do if I hadn't already used up most of today's free time on this already) is:

1: Create a big folder for the files
2: Create subfolders for each of the 142 seven-inches
3: Drop the existing files in the right folders, with a consistent naming scheme
4: Create a .torrent of all that (possibly using TorrentZip: http://www.pleasuredome.org.uk/mameftpgroup/index.php?full#tzip )
5: Hand out the torrent so that everyone can start downloading (and encourage those who have most of the files in the torrent already to put them in the right places so the torrent gets seeded much faster)
6: When new files are added, update the .torrent file and publish it - it'll only download the new stuff

This is very similar to how the PleasureDome MAME ROMs torrent works:
http://www.pleasuredome.org.uk/mameftpgroup/index.php
