Accentmonkey, was there one person you added and all this stuff followed on? I had that and am thinking of quietly telling them irl that I think they're great but I'm letting them go because I'm sick of people going: "Oh here's x, oh and there's y. Let's add them both."

I added my first bf who i havent seenin 15 years and now I kind of regret it... he's just so different to me now it is weirding me the fuck out.

Then un-add him. No need for drama, he won't be hurt. You can also put him on limited profile and reduce the amount of news you get from him.

Eh, its no big deal. Ive added a heap of ppl I never engage with. Its not like I do anything deadly important on FB :)

the top right of your news feed there is 'preferences' - click on that and there are a bunch of dials you can adjust. just turn them all down and you'll get no news at all.

if only there was a dial you could turn down on all the stupid apps. wtf is the point of being a ninja, werewolf or vampire? why would i want to come to an imaginary happy hour?

Tho I have scrab, sudoku and astrolgy/tarot apps... and i like the ask a question thing, thats created some amusing creativity from friends. My latest question is "lads: are you impressed by a girl who can out-belch you?"

I removed the Ask A Question app because it seemed to have asked questions automatically for me, which was annoying.

I removed it because I couldn't find a way to get it to stop emailing me every time one of my FB friends asked a question, and even now I keep getting noitifications in FB to tell me that so-and-so has asked a question. I'm sick of it.

I think you can turn some of that off... people are nongs and leave everyone ticked when they ask a q'n.

I have been avoiding Facebook because a) it annoyed me by being students-only when I wasn't a student, b) assumed myspacesque "who can win most friends by how hot their pouting emo teenage bathroom mirror photo is" competition reasons, and c) it seems kind of OLD now and if I can't be an early adopter then I don't want to know etc, but last weekend I met some people I hadn't seen in ages and would kind of like to see again, and they asked if I was on it, and joining up now to say hi seems marginally less creepy than trying to google up an email address, maybe.

This makes me very depressed. A lot of old friends are on Facebook and it hurts to see them all still friends, while I have been forgotten

Oh God, I find livejournal super-depressing for this reason so maybe I should be happy with not getting to spy on their Facebooks. Everyone I ever knew or thought seemed interesting even though they were too cool to talk to me from like 4 or 5 separate groups of long-lost friends is now in the same LJ friend circle (and there was me trying not to mix a couple of the groups when I knew them under the assumption that they wouldn't get on).

Meanwhile I don't see any of them except some of the too-cool types from a distance and one once-friend I bump into maybe twice a year who gives me that busy "oh yeah, I used to know you, but I have much better stuff happening in my life now" vibe each time. Then again maybe she would be nice and chatty except she thinks I'm giving off that vibe too? Arghs etc.

Stone cold rejection is an option, yes. Perhaps not the politest mind!

I'm figuring out what to do in this situation. The person tries to get you to befriend them, and you choose ignore. Then you see them in real life and they go 'hey! You didn't befriend me!' and you act all confused and say 'oh, sorry, some spammer was trying to befriend me last week, I must have hit the wrong button. Send the request again.'

If they never say anything, you never have to worry.

I'm already in it ken and, of course, it is your rejection I fear the most.

xpost instead of rejecting per se i've currently left about 10 requests in limbo.

it was just that the last time i rejected somebody, they came back with a request again - so if i leave everything in limbo at least i won't get another notification that i don't need if they do.

it's getting increasingly annoying having 10 friend requests pending though so maybe i should actually just reject it all.

The 'Friend Groups' thing that Facebook are supposed to be launching rsn could solve some of your problems, accentmonkey. You can friend someone, and then add them to the group "wish I hadn't friended this person", where they never see your updates and you don't see theirs.

I heard an awful tale at lunch today. One of my colleagues missed someone's wedding coz they had sent out the invitations via facebook rather than in the traditional way.

wtf i've just been added by an extremely hot girl, i check her profile and a) there is no information except the basic 'interested in, relationship status, DOB, hometown' shizzle at the top, and b) i am, at time of writing, her only friend.
