uk mtb practice = nod and the standard uk neutral rhetorical greeting of "alright?"

I find a jaunty salute does the trick.

I don't wave at anyone and have never noticed anyone else doing? Weird. But I'm an unfriendly bastard.

slipstreamin'
― wilter, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 02:57 (sixteen years ago) link
Yeah, sorry, when you follow them for a while and don't help out by letting them slipstream you for a bit (I try to be fair but if their speed is such that even when slipstreaming I can only just keep up, there's no point in me taking the lead).

i dont usually draft ppl i dont know as i dont trust them, and i dont like people whom i dont know drafting me univited very much. if someone does draft me, im polite tho and point out hazards etc.
so if i draft someone i dont know its usually either brief, or i'll ask him if its alright and then thank him.
one thing i practice almost always is to ask riders broken down on the side of the road "you ok?" and render assistance if needed/possible.

i completely freaked out an older lady once by drawing up next to her while she was riding and pointing out that her front quick release was completely open. I advised her to stop slowly. she didnt believe me/didnt know what i was telling her/didnt understand quick releases.
she did ultimately stop and allow me to fix it.

the other day i was going up a really steep hill and my chain de-railed when i shifted down. two different dudes stopped to see if i needed help, and even though i didn't this time, it was really nice.

I greet everyone I see while on the bike. My fellow townspeople are tired of me already.
