The Dudleys could probably be successfuly in arguing for their right to use the name in live events. What Vince actually owns is the video footage of the performances. The extemporaneous nature of wrestling means that to a large extent, the wrestlers create the characters they portray. It's just all kinds of evil to prevent the workers from using the likeness that they created on the indie circuit when A. Vince will still make money from owning footage of them and B. is not interested in using them at the moment. This is just another example of a corporation routinely abusing copyright ownership, it should not be considered analygous to being the author of a text.

This "Vince protects his property" thing gets the thumbs up from me, because apparently it's really pissing off Shane Douglas's attempts to wring the last few pennies from the legacy of ECW.

Good.

Come on, didn't anyone else read Eric Szulczewski columns on this subject?

Completely off-topic, but this Eric dude's existance on planet earth is an enigma to me. I like his columns, even tho 1/10th of it is actual content.

I used to hate his columns back on Rantsylvania, but I've come to realize that he's just a very unhappy man.

seven months pass...
How can Vince own the "Dudley Boyz, Spike Dudley, Rhyno, Billy Gunn and Road Dogg" Names? They are the wrestlers characters and in that, it is like saying he pwns the wrestlers. It is ridiculous. At least they still have the name of 3D (Dudley Death Drop) In their Tag-Team name and also the finisher.

one year passes...

When The Dudleys went from ECW to WWE, Paul Heyman never went all 'legal' on Vince when he used the Dudley name. Vince doesn’t have to hand over the legal rights to all these wrestlers, but what does he have to lose by letting them use the name they made famous. I think Spike, D-Von and Bubba should legally chance there names and sue Vince for complete legal rights to their names. If the Ultimate Warrior could do it so can The Dudleys, and with using the UW's case as a president they can win a lawsuit against the WWE.

Both Steve Austin and Chyna legally changed their names recently, too.
