It also helps that given the (in my humble opinion) inexcusable actions of the Ex-Kennedys i.e. the lawsuit/rights to the DKs backcatalog, seeing this pretty much invalidates the Ex-Kennedys in a live context, period. The Melvins were the ones that had to convince Jello to do live DeadKennedys songs live for this tour and the one last year... but I thinkJello realized this master move. Who's going to see the Ex-Kennedys live NOW, after this? Because any die-hard DKs fan too young to have seem them back in the day will have seen this one, if not both. No DKs fan would have seen just the Ex-Kennedys live.
And even if the Ex-Kennedys can sue Jello for using "their" songs live (which I don't know if is true or not), this Jello/Melvins tour thing will help put the nails into the coffins of the Ex-Kennedys being able to tour again... and the Ex-DKs will have to live off the sales of the DK records via Manifesto, solely (which is possible, but will suffer if their live shows are sparsely attended by even ironic fans at this point.)
All in all, payback can taste great, and rock very loudly.

my punk rock claim to fame: i was really involved in the campus green party in the 2000 elections, and we brought him to speak at my school. we took him out to dinner afterwards, and the only place open was denny's. he ate my fries. he also pissed in an empty water bottle before his lecture, so he didn't have to go out through the auditorium to the bathroom. bottle of jello biafra piss. yep.

And yes, Jello still rocks it live. He sat in with my band last month in Oakland wearing a pope's hat and a judge's robe. It was a good look for him.

New Full-Length Album From Jello Biafra On April 2, 2013
Alternative Tentacles is proud to announce the April 2nd release date for Jello Biafra & the Guantanamo School Of Medicine’s highly-anticipated new album White People And The Damage Done. White People And The Damage Done (Virus 450) is the band's second full length, picking up where last fall’s “Shock-u-py!” left off. This long-awaited anti-austerity blast-a-thon with the teeth, venom, and one-of-a-kind music of Jello Biafra covers in gruesome detail: corruption (“The Brown Lipstick Parade”), “Werewolves of Wall Street,” “Road Rage,” and corporate McMedia making pop stars out of small-time crooks to shield the big ones (“John Dillinger”) or tabloid pop stars to lobotomize everyone else (“Hollywood Goof Disease”). The title track shines a light on our never-ending foreign-policy disasters in ways Jello’s spoken word albums never did. “Crapture” is the perfect song to play for those lovely “End Times” believers, pointing out how much better the world will be when they leave and we’re “Left Behind”- with melodies on the scale Biafra hasn’t touched since “Moon Over Marin.”
Listen to the preview track "Werewolves Of Wall Street" here: http://goo.gl/BBz4r After 30 plus years, Jello Biafra’s music and lyrics remain in a class of their own. This is his 1st concept album since “Frankenchrist.” Anyone interested in Dead Kennedys won’t be disappointed to hear how Jello has not changed with the times. Biafra has continuously spoken the truth and has never waivered from his principles. Jello Biafra is more relevant now than he has ever been! Above all, this album rocks! No pop-punk here. Jello and crew take punk fire in a wide variety of directions few ever try, with wall-of-sound, in-your-face production from Marshall Lawless and Matt Kelley (lots of Jello projects, Hieroglyphics, The Coup, Digital Underground, Zen Guerrilla, Victims Family). Lineup retains the double-barreled guitar attack of Ralph Spight (Victims Family, Freak Accident) and Kimo Ball (Freak Accident, Griddle, Mol Triffid). They are joined this time by bassist Andrew Weiss (Rollins Band, Ween, Butthole Surfers, and more) and drummer Paul Della Pelle (Helios Creed, Nik Turner’s Space Ritual, and Philly HC legends Ruin). Winston Smith’s cover image is hard to forget and hard to ignore- one of his best in years! Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School Of Medicine will be touring through most of 2013 on at least 3 continents to promote this beast. The live shows are the real deal. If you like OFF! or Dead Ending, for crying out loud don’t miss this! This is not just an Age of Austerity album. It is THE Age of Austerity album!

Frankenchrist was a concept album?
― how's life, Monday, 11 February 2013 22:07 (eleven years ago) link
This album kinda sucks unfortunately. The band sounds really stiff, the guitar sound is mostly rubbish slick distortion. There are some good songs on it, I think the production lets it down the most. Lyrics are a bit trite in places too, it's all angry and going for all the targets you'd expect but the wit isn't there in a lot of it.
