Motley Crue --Too Fast for Love

Yeah, the riffs and grooves lord on this album, but the vocals are the weak link. I like Vince's vocals on subsequent albums but on this one he sounds like he was still finding his voice. He sounds a little like a cute fluffy bunny or something.

I like the vocals. They only add to the WTF? production-vibe on this album. This band was so much better when they didn't know what they were doing.

As if to suggest that they know what they're doing now?

According to a quasi-reliable source, lots of Vince Neil's vocals were "ghost-sung" -- or at least "augmented" by Robin Zander of Cheap Trick. Can't say if that's really true or not, but there's your rumor.

Well, I guess they eventually learned how to play the game. They became pros, more or less. Whereas, on that first album they come off like a bunch of private-press weirdoes, if that makes any sense.

The hair metal guide to instant fame had yet to be written when TFFL was made, so it has a raw, metal/punk edge missing from most subsequent hair metal.

That kinda goes without saying.

About half of TFFL is amazing, but the other half gets a little too bubblegummy...not that it's bad, but the Sweet-meets-Cheap Trick feel of something like "Public Enemy #1" totally clashes with the more badass tunes like "Live Wire", "Take Me to the Top", and "Piece of Your Action". They really hit paydirt when Sixx decided to get all eee-vil on us on the next record.

I've always thought that there never was a "real" Motley Crue, and that every album was them trying on a different pose (which I think is an entirely legitimate and respectable artistic method).

This is their best album start to finish, but it can't match the power of singles like "Kickstart My Heart" or "Same Ol' Situation." There's a reason that Dr. Feelgood made Bob Rock's career.

Why does the chorus of 'Come On and Dance' sound like the Muppets

Well, most of Motley Crue do look and play like the Muppets was a formative influence...

I have decided in my old age that I definutitely prefer the Leathür Records version of the TFFL album without all the sped-up vocals & effects

(though admittedly it takes a little getting used to)

I'm just now listening to the Leathür version.

Going back and forth between "aw, they should've kept the raw sound of Mick's solo!" to "Why in the hell are they ruining Livewire with ... a smattering of applause?"

This and Shout at the Devil are the only Crue you need.
Some rep for Dr. Feelgood but I think it is garbage.

Too Fast for Love is indeed solid as is Shout.

I have NEVER liked Neil's voice, but it grates on me less on these albums, and the songs are much better.

I'll defend side one of Theater of Pain. Not side two.

And the "Come on and Dance"/Rocky Horror comparison is so accurate it will never leave my head now.
