the only way I'd know today was a 'holiday' really is that everything is closed and the campus is completely deserted
like ... creepy deserted.

yeah, holidays can be really creepy-quiet. by afternoon i'm sure it'll be really getting on my nerves, rather than seeming cool.

Walked home at eight this morning (oops). Spent time being hungover. Drank a pot of coffee. Walked around and quickly became depressed by lack of people on streets. Went and got chinese food. Enjoyed having apartment alone. Attempted to work of writing sample for grad school apps. Wasted time on interweb. Wondered why was writing in this weird stilted fashion.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Thursday, 25 November 2004 23:42 (nineteen years ago) link

Well, Thanksgiving alearly passed for me. I was kind of busy with a couple of things, so I didn't do anything special at all.

But none of the Americans around me seemed to do anything either, so whatever. I'm getting together with a couple of American friends tonight, so it'll probably have a bit of a Thanksgiving feel.

Thanksgiving has kind of lost meaning for the time being. But of course my family and family friends are getting together right now, as we speak, and I'm not there. So that's kind of sad.

I also won't be going home for the Christmas/Hannukah/New Year's stretch either.

Last year I spent Thanksgiving driving across British Columbia to get to Edmonton, where Anthony greeted me with open arms. That was nice.

An early afternoon dinner with some friends in Brooklyn. (This has become kind of a tradition, being the 3rd year running.) Since then, I've been at work, where they also brought in a full meal (turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, etc). I am very well fed.
