The other Simon Davies. He played for Wales as well.

From Exeter City to.. oblivion?

No - Bangor City FC.

if harry kewell is sold then i swear i'll break down and weep. it's cruel to even print these fucking stories. as soon as leeds get anythign to be remotely happy about (i was working at twickenham that day, guardin the commentators room, which was full of aussie cameramen and sandwiches - got a fella from radio exeter to relay the scores. i almost punched him when he told me we'd scored 6) some red press monkey has to try to take the gloss off. i'll leave a trail of fire that stretches from fleet street to the north stand.

matthew james I feel your pain. The 6-1 destruction of Charlton is the highlight of our season. With all these fucking stories about how Smith, Viduka and Kewell are all on their way is heartrending stuff. But I am so horrified at the way the club has handled everything, from the Bowyer/Woodgate trial to the lies from the Chairman la la la etc etc, just makes you feel like a dick for supporting the team, you know. I was seriously considering switching my allegience to another club so I paid a few visits to my nearest team - err Crystal Palace. They were so poor though, and besides, even if the Leeds board are a bunch of idiots, the players deserve some love, and that 6-1 fluke has gone some way to restoring my faith in the bastards.

Still... gotta laugh, ain't ya?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 08:47 (twenty-one years ago) link

On a serious note, Leeds' only chance is to hit the reset button. Sell everyone of note off, get Paul Hart in, hope you stay up next season (you will, because Portsmouth are going straight back down, and Man City are the new Leeds), and then start rebuilding.

Could be worse. You could be bottom of the Second...

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 08:48 (twenty-one years ago) link

Don't be silly. We can't sell off Smith et al - what else is there for Chrissakes? I think we'll stay up, but yeah, Reid is not the man for the job "Foooockin 'ell lads, get fockin' stook in and get the fookin' ball in the net like." You're right, Hart would be the way forwards or O'Neil (yeah, like he's gonna leave Cletic for the sinking wreck of Leeds) but I really don't think selling other players would help the dressing room morale or the structure of the team. Surely the debts have come down enough to stem the exodus? Oh, and if Robinson leaves for the fucking Gooners I'm gonna put a contract out on each and every member of the Leeds board.

Alex K (Alex K), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 08:55 (twenty-one years ago) link

Alex- no offence, but your view on the situation is exactly the same one Fiorentina fans had about a year and a half ago.

Hey dude - there was no offence taken. After the last year, my jaw has been turned to granite with all the shit I've taken over the Leeds debacle. I guess the Fiorentina story is a worst case schenario but you know the darkest thing is, as fans, I don't think we really know the extent of the club's problems. We've been told so many fuckin lies, who knows what's going to happen next.

On a lighter note, you support Northampton Town? I'm so sorry to hear that man...

Alex K (Alex K), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 09:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

Up the Robins.

Dude... to quote that guy from 12 Angry Men, it's like being hit over the head with a crowbar once a week. Still, Steve Morrison's finally come up from the youth team, and if we go down, hopefully McGregor and Gabbiadini will piss off, so it's not all doom and gloom.

Enjoy watching Madrid give Dirtchester Unitstink a footballing lesson last night?

Alex K (Alex K), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 09:17 (twenty-one years ago) link

Considering I have all my motor functions intact, of course. One of the funniest bloody things I've seen this year is Zidane leaving Roy Keane on his backside.

Just hoping Inter can do over Valencia tonight as well. Hopefully it'll be showing on one of the Italian satellite channels.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 09:21 (twenty-one years ago) link

I liked Fergie's face at half time, planning the rocket he was about to give his team, chewing over the bollocking he is about to deliver. Then the teams come back out and Senor Gonzales sticks it in the net almost immediately. Whatever the ruddy-faced fucko said, it clearly did the trick.

How come you're backing Inter over the Spaniards?

Alex K (Alex K), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 09:30 (twenty-one years ago) link

Have a look at my surname. My real first name is "Domenico". Should be clue enough for you.

But it has to be said kewells signing happened long before post-modernism, so it's not even real, really.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 12:09 (twenty-one years ago) link

I've read articles about Leeds' plight that say that the debt was £78m, and that selling £56m worth of players has barely made a dent in the debt. Who is doing Leeds' accounts?

haha, who else brings together footie and classic literature like The Pinefox? (We can bring in Tim H for the football/modern art interface, when we need to.)

I blame pinefox.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 17 July 2003 16:27 (twenty years ago) link

Harry Kewell is a better buy than Duff, cost-wise.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 17 July 2003 17:10 (twenty years ago) link

Yes, comparable quality, very different prices.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 17 July 2003 19:53 (twenty years ago) link

Yes, but Harry Kewell is a cnut. I get the impression Duff is much more of a team player. Which is important.

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 18 July 2003 07:36 (twenty years ago) link

Duff wasn't really much cop for most of last season though, was he? Although to be fair he did spend a lot of it injured.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 July 2003 07:37 (twenty years ago) link

both will be sitting in the stands with suits on by december as both have weak legs that cant stand up to the game, Harry has consistently missed large important chunks of the season with varying injuries because he is a weener

im_not_bitter_honest (james), Friday, 18 July 2003 08:58 (twenty years ago) link

James, are you desperately hoping you don't sign Ronaldinho? He sounds a hella lot more trouble than he's worth.

chris (chris), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:03 (twenty years ago) link

I'm getting bored and pissed off with the whole saga. If he wants to play for us he should say so, if not he can fuck off to Barcelona.

He's a fantastic player, but you could be right about the grief.

(We have done alright with some 'difficult' players though - Cantona is the obvious example.)

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:13 (twenty years ago) link

and kleberson - he has managed to mess a load of clubs around he is worse than viduks agent

james (james), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:15 (twenty years ago) link

So he wasn't bowled over by the thought of signing for Leeds - can you blame him?

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:17 (twenty years ago) link

yes, yes i can

Australia's Harry Kewell, one of the country's most successful soccer exports, is set to retire after an injury-plagued season with A-League club Melbourne Heart, local media said on Wednesday.
