The Playstation 3 is a game system...

...sitting on my tv unit! Thanks Santa!

So far I have two blu-ray films and Assassin's Creed. I have learned how to walk and push people gently aside. So excited!

Yes but have you played the game yet

antexit, Saturday, 26 December 2009 15:13 (fourteen years ago) link

So, I bought one of these suckers. I downloaded the Wipeout HD + Rage pack, played the intro of MGS4, watched Blade Runner on blu-ray, and am running something called "PS3 Media Server" on my laptop to stream video to it. A little choppy on higher quality HD content, so I might have to figure out how to copy video to the PS3 or make my network connection a little better. Netflix streaming disc is on its way.

Now I just feel like I need a better television and receiver, sadly.

Also starting with a turn-based game was never going to win me over. Letting a rat chew my leg because I've already had a go at kicking it just seems wrong to my FPS mind.

one day you'll be old and senile like me and turn-based gameplay will be all you can cope with, sonny

I'm usually not an RPG guy, but for some as yet unknown reason, White Knight Chronicles is looking pretty good to me. Anybody else thinking about picking it up?

Modnation Racers beta in EU today for first 100,000 downloaders. had a quick play around, seems to be just 4 time trial stages? one stage keeps resetting with a "Wrong Way" message even though i'm in the middle of the road going the right way, another has eye bleeding framerate problems. oh and everything has incredibly loooooooooong loading times. yeh its a beta, but not exactly encouraging.

zappi, Thursday, 21 January 2010 18:00 (fourteen years ago) link

white knight chronicles got some wildly varying reviews on original release. i guess they are supposed to have tweaked it for the int'l release? i dunno. i am drawn to it but i am definitely waiting for a reliable opinion to sway me either way.

aarrissi-a-roni, Thursday, 21 January 2010 18:14 (fourteen years ago) link

ok - what about MAG? I enjoyed the little I played during the beta, definitely considering picking it up next week - anybody else? Not quite sure I'm ready to move on from MW2

Jeff LeVine, Friday, 22 January 2010 19:30 (fourteen years ago) link

question re: Eliminator mode in Wipeout HD Fury: has anyone tried just running the whole race in reverse? Will it let you? I initially thought it didn't but, over the weekend, I noticed that I was actually able to drive the wrong way down the track and wondered if anyone else used that as an attack strat

that renders your ps3 useless for anything but an emu device tho, right?

forksclovetofu, Sunday, 21 February 2010 16:06 (fourteen years ago) link

nope - setting up OtherOS partitions off 10 gigs for Linux and leaves the rest for PS3. you'll have to format your hard drive to set it up, though you can just back up/restore the contents first. oh and apparently this software is set to automatically boot when you load OtherOS so you don't have to go digging out a USB keyboard to enter shell commands and such.

the downside is that if the rumors are true and Sony's about to patch out OtherOS in a future firmware update (it's the cornerstone of the Geohot hack after all) all of your work will be for nothing.

not regular psp games, but you can play most of the downloadable psp-mini games on a ps3.

Official statement from Sony:

"As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.

"We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.

"Errors include:
The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following message appears on the screen; "An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)".
When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; "Failed to install trophies. Please exit your game."
When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the Internet, the following message appears on the screen; "The current date and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)"
Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the PlayStation Store before the expiration date.
"We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

"As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused."
