I am enjoying it! It's funny, when you're climbing the colossi the music is all "Oh what a valiant hero you are" and then as soon as you kill one it changes to "FOR SHAME............."

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 11:28 (eighteen years ago) link

I finished it on hard mode and it was prolly easier than the 1st time around - esp since I had all those helpful toys I got from the time attacks. So I'm going to see what happens when I finnish it on the hard/time mode.
Doin' hard time!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 15:42 (eighteen years ago) link

I like the pipe organ/cathedral bits. I've beat two guys but I hope they use that more. It's like in SOTN; more pipe organ is needed in games.

kingfish da notorious teletabby (kingfish 2.0), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 19:13 (eighteen years ago) link

Two more down, they weren't so bad - mainly because I realised I'd been completely ignoring the strength meter when hanging on for dear life. Idiot.

ledge (ledge), Thursday, 16 March 2006 09:34 (eighteen years ago) link

LOL at Ledge: dude, how did you ever beat ANY of them without noticing that gauge?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 16 March 2006 18:48 (eighteen years ago) link

I didn't notice it until a couple of colossi in...you can kind of tell when your dude starts to get tired and scrabble for grip.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 16 March 2006 18:52 (eighteen years ago) link

I just kept on falling off and having to jump back on... hence my irritation. I was thinking "ten colossi, 30 mins per, that's five hours... not very long, but it may be the most irritating five hours of my life". Now I'm thinking "ten minutes for each one, what gives?" I guess it's just gonna get harder.

ledge (ledge), Friday, 17 March 2006 10:03 (eighteen years ago) link

Oh, not MUCH harder... until you get to the last one.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 17 March 2006 15:28 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah, the first hour or so of falling off the final guy ruins the good time you think you're making.

Craig Gilchrist (Craig Gilchrist), Friday, 17 March 2006 15:56 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm on the third one but I haven't got to where he is yet, after about 30 attempts to jump from one ledge to the other ending with me falling into the lake.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 17 March 2006 20:45 (eighteen years ago) link

If you hold the button down when you jump you jump farther.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 17 March 2006 22:56 (eighteen years ago) link

There is so much Miyazaki all over this game. All you need is a female adolescent protagonist instead of your usual 17-year-old bishounen, and there you go.

kingfish da notorious teletabby (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 17 March 2006 23:26 (eighteen years ago) link

sooooo OTM.

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Friday, 17 March 2006 23:27 (eighteen years ago) link

See, I thought the lead WAS a girl for most of the game. 'Till I saw his wang. That set me straight.
Not really.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Saturday, 18 March 2006 00:36 (eighteen years ago) link

also, long panning shots of the wind blowing thru the fields & hills, coupled with wistful/mournful strings from the Studio Ghibli Orchestra

kingfish da notorious teletabby (kingfish 2.0), Saturday, 18 March 2006 00:51 (eighteen years ago) link

Bah, the ninth colossus can fuck right off. I'm done with this tedious, repetitive and frustrating game.

ledge (ledge), Sunday, 26 March 2006 11:57 (eighteen years ago) link

Which one is the ninth one again?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 26 March 2006 18:13 (eighteen years ago) link

The one with the geysers.

Jordan (Jordan), Sunday, 26 March 2006 20:01 (eighteen years ago) link

God I hated that one. My 2nd-most hated colossus after the final one.

A. Lingbert (A. Lingbert), Monday, 27 March 2006 00:10 (eighteen years ago) link

Huh. That one didn't bug me. Once you're on his back, it's gravy.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 27 March 2006 00:47 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah, but getting it on its back was a motherfucker. Dodging its projectiles got really old.

A. Lingbert (A. Lingbert), Monday, 27 March 2006 03:08 (eighteen years ago) link

Exactamundo. "Lure him onto the geysers" = "run around like a blue arsed fly while he just sits there firing undodgeable missiles at you".

ledge (ledge), Monday, 27 March 2006 07:49 (eighteen years ago) link

They are easily dodgeable if you are on teh horse!

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 27 March 2006 15:57 (eighteen years ago) link

Exactly! And when he's close enough to a geyser you can linger close by so he can't shoot at you.
The worst one is the stupid Temor/underground worm one.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 28 March 2006 06:11 (eighteen years ago) link

I didn't mind the worm one once I figured it out. Now I'm stuck on the giant fucking thing in the giant lake. I know how to beat it but it seems like such a pain in the ass that it's almost not worth it.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Tuesday, 28 March 2006 07:29 (eighteen years ago) link

the sandworm and the big flying thing in the desert area were my 2 favorite.

Christopher Costello (CGC), Thursday, 30 March 2006 21:38 (eighteen years ago) link

I didn't mind the worm either, but the pterodactyl thing in the lake was a bitch.

It took me fucking forever to notice the sticks on the ground in the hellhound level (my tv is small and dark), but that one was still cool.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 30 March 2006 21:46 (eighteen years ago) link

I can't believe I'm alone on the worm hate here! I had the hardest time nailing him with that arrow. Him and the giant turtle are imposible to pull off in the time attack!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 31 March 2006 04:04 (eighteen years ago) link

"The worm" is "impossible" to "pull off".

JimD (JimD), Friday, 31 March 2006 09:47 (eighteen years ago) link

one year passes...

I've only just started playing SOTC. 3 Colossi down. This is so much better than ico! I'm definitely not doing it properly though. Is the time attack an option after you finish or should I be watching my time on my first play through?

I am enjoying it! It's funny, when you're climbing the colossi the music is all "Oh what a valiant hero you are" and then as soon as you kill one it changes to "FOR SHAME............."

-- Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 11:28

Is v v OTM

I like having the horse even when it takes forever to make it go anywhere! Camera is a real pain as well, I just can't get used to it at all :(

I also have just learned what that gauge is. I feel shame u_u

kv_nol, Monday, 23 July 2007 11:19 (sixteen years ago) link

time attack is after you finish

marmotwolof, Monday, 23 July 2007 11:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Ah that would make sense. Are the colossi in the same positions?

kv_nol, Monday, 23 July 2007 11:33 (sixteen years ago) link

you actually go straight to them from the temple, you'll see.

marmotwolof, Monday, 23 July 2007 11:37 (sixteen years ago) link

(so yes, but it won't matter)

marmotwolof, Monday, 23 July 2007 11:37 (sixteen years ago) link

Ah, got ya. You just meet them in sequence and start hammering lumps out of each other?

kv_nol, Monday, 23 July 2007 11:40 (sixteen years ago) link

nope, you can pick which one to fight from the little statues in the temple. yr getting ahead of yrself, beat the game first! :D

marmotwolof, Monday, 23 July 2007 11:47 (sixteen years ago) link

by positions I thought you meant locations, sorry

marmotwolof, Monday, 23 July 2007 11:49 (sixteen years ago) link

Such a great game.

Jordan, Monday, 23 July 2007 13:57 (sixteen years ago) link

Ah right. I suppose I should try beating it first. I has teh fear of sandworm, last and the flying one. I probably shouldn't have read the thread!

kv_nol, Monday, 23 July 2007 14:03 (sixteen years ago) link

One of the best games ever made, I think.

polyphonic, Monday, 23 July 2007 15:26 (sixteen years ago) link

want!

Tracer Hand, Monday, 23 July 2007 15:37 (sixteen years ago) link

(You really won't regret it)

kv_nol, Monday, 23 July 2007 15:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Unless you're as big a game-hating grinch as me.

ledge, Monday, 23 July 2007 21:28 (sixteen years ago) link

czn, Monday, 23 July 2007 21:58 (sixteen years ago) link

yes, you do, but it's called, alternately, xbox classics and ps2 platinum... not sure that shadow of the colossus is platinum over here just yet and either way it would be £20 and not £10 even if it was platinum, if I remember correctly

czn, Monday, 23 July 2007 22:02 (sixteen years ago) link

Yay to enabling TH!

Tracer, play.com on the markey place there's a copy for only £14.99!
