Lex, The Page Turner is on at the Rio! I don't know if you'd like it, but it's got to be better than thse two.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 11:59 (seventeen years ago) link

i can never tell whose music is whose here! although i guessed 'uptown girl' was sam's.

it is not within my ability to trek to the rio today, i am limited by the holloway odeon :(

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 12:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Doh, sorry I forgot you lived there instead of here.

Haha there's always Step Up!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 12:10 (seventeen years ago) link

ok the blokey in that is fit and it has the single of the year on the soundtrack but i feel that my time would be better served looking at pictures of him on the internet while actually listening to ciara

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 12:13 (seventeen years ago) link

could you not manage the camden odeon or islington vue? they're only a bus ride away.

how are supermayer so cute? it is surely not natural.

Hello. Do we have a pre-Fabric pub sorted yet? Slaughtered Lamb is a bit far in the wrong direction for my liking and I know other people have a problem with it. Is there anywhere around Farringdon Station that's likely to be open and not shit?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 10 November 2006 15:09 (seventeen years ago) link

On the offchance anyone coming is reading this, I'll be in the Duke of York on Clerkenwell Road from 9.30-10ish. I'll text people if there's any change of plan.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 11 November 2006 19:43 (seventeen years ago) link

I shall wave out the window.

ellen was so so amazing as well.

what was that café which appeared across the road just as we needed it?! that place was exactly what i was craving. BEER AND TEA ALL MORNING.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:00 (seventeen years ago) link

I thought everyone that wasn't Ellen or Rex was a bit meh really, although there were some good minimal noises in Room One early on it all went very clunky later in the night.

Partly because Ellen was playing live and Rex (I think) only played his own records and remixes, there was a general feeling of being more like a fantastic gig than a club night in its own right. But awesome nonetheless.

Also, for some reason I just didn't expect to hear Heartbeats, it hadn't even occurred to me he might play it, so it was just this ridiculous joyful moment.

That was probably the most welcome cup of tea of my life. So, Carl Craig at The End in two weeks time, then?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:10 (seventeen years ago) link

carl craig for definite

I thought everyone that wasn't Ellen or Rex was a bit meh really. i actually thought kinda the opposite

i thought rex was absolutely terrible. i'd never heard him before, and i hope i never hear him again. it sounded like sonic the hedgehog

ellen allien was better, but i found her very one dimensional, quite static and square, would have liked something more snakey. id never heard her before either really,

the stuff much earlier on was the best, in the end. konrad black i guess,

sheperding lex back home was quite a feat, he kept staggering off in the wrong direction, refused to believe that kings cross wasnt clerkenwell, though my street was tottenham court road, and only noticed we had actually got home after we had been home for 10 minutes

i woke up at 4pm and said "the chestnuts. give them to me"

-- (688), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:19 (seventeen years ago) link

in my mind everything post-fabric - the lurching around clerkenwell, the tea, the beer, the tea, the beer, the journey home which i don't remember at all and thus didn't really happen - was compressed into a short period of time just after dawn and before anyone else was out and about. the idea that much of it might have happened on sunday afternoon with lots of normal people and children watching gives me the fear.

the best moment was when anna-marie and i thought 'way out' was about to end, and we looked at each other and said "can this song never ever ever end and just go on forever" and ellen must have heard us because the beat kicked in again and it went on forever!

ellen prowling around the stage = hott.

'i look into mid-air' = best song ever. in what universe is sounding like sonic the hedgehog bad!

I remember you talking about that, where did you hear it? need to know where to avoid.

ampersand, hearts, semicolon (cis), Monday, 13 November 2006 13:53 (seventeen years ago) link

I bet that was Rob Da Bank's fault.

Ed (dali), Monday, 13 November 2006 14:07 (seventeen years ago) link

that mashup is by the delectable Soundhog, but why it would be played NOW is baffling.

sounds like i would've enjoyed RTD.

anyone up for justus kohncke at the key?

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Monday, 13 November 2006 14:17 (seventeen years ago) link

when? if it doesn't fall into post-operation window, YES

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 13 November 2006 14:19 (seventeen years ago) link

justus is 18 november; I can't make it, so so frustrating.

ampersand, hearts, semicolon (cis), Monday, 13 November 2006 14:33 (seventeen years ago) link

that could well be doable.

-- (688), Monday, 13 November 2006 14:35 (seventeen years ago) link

ah. michael mayer & ivan smagghe are at fabric on the 18th - i would def prefer kohncke as i've just seen mayer but there's a possibility that i might be interviewing, or helping robin interview, mayer...

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 13 November 2006 14:38 (seventeen years ago) link

oh yea he mentioned that. i'd (slightly) prefer kohncke, but mayer would be good also. anyone except that awful rex person

-- (688), Monday, 13 November 2006 15:34 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm coming in from New York this weekend to get my fix of some proper dance music. What's worth checking out as far as clubs/residencies? I'd love some Friday night suggestions from "the experts."

Would be open to just about anything that's good - no genre requirements.

I think my Saturday is covered with a stop at Fabric for Mayer/Smagghe (although Kohncke sounds tempting too!).

augustus (augustus), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 15:28 (seventeen years ago) link

I am going to something called AntiSocial run by Yr Mum Yr Dad on Saturday, likely to be full of challenging fashion types, people from work, etc.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 15:49 (seventeen years ago) link

Mayer will be the best I think, Kohncke good as well. If his set at Cross Central is anything to go by, Smagghe has gone shit since his transition from big room electro-house to clunky minimal.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 16:02 (seventeen years ago) link

what did Rex play other than his own stuff?

2 american 4 u (blueski), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 16:04 (seventeen years ago) link

Everything sounded like it was either one of his own tracks or a remix.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 16:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Do any of you guys like a bit of proper techno action?

I'm heading up to Split at The Key on the 2nd if it's anyone's cup of tea - apparently the atmosphere is second to none at their events.

ROOM ONE.
ROBERT HOOD
VINCE WATSON LIVE
DAN MOORE (SC)
CHRIS FINKE
ALEX DOWNEY (TBC)

ROOM TWO

What do you mean by proper techno?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 16:38 (seventeen years ago) link

i think i would like Vince Watson (but i can't quite get around my clubbing antipathy at the mo)

2 american 4 u (blueski), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 16:39 (seventeen years ago) link

I really want to see Robert Hood.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 16:42 (seventeen years ago) link

What do you mean by proper techno?

You know what I meant! But, by all means, let's have a debate.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 16:46 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah i missed robert hood in NYC earlier this year and have regretted it ever since.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 16:47 (seventeen years ago) link

It's more of a case of am I going to be piss bored by 2am because no bugger behind the decks has bothered to vary (mainly up) the tempo in 3 hours?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 16:49 (seventeen years ago) link

11am - 128bpm
2am - 131bpm

5am - 136bpm

what did Rex play other than his own stuff?

when I saw him, yeah, it was 40-odd minutes of new Rex stuff, the rest his old stuff and remixes. but apparently at another Sydney show he played quite a bit of other people's music, eg Theme From S-Express.

occasional mongrel (kit brash), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 09:58 (seventeen years ago) link
