I always consult the first few pages of my book before doing a reading. It's not like I have all this memorized. I think the heads dominance, which I write as plus signs, gives you the ___ and the minus dominance gives you the _ _.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:21 (fourteen years ago) link

what determines whether you have a short or long dash - or is a certain result not a dash, and another one a dash, so that there's a space?

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:21 (fourteen years ago) link

The double dash is just the result of a three coin toss, and the single dash is a result of a three coin toss. If it's more heads than tails, it's a single dash. If it's more tails than heads, it's a double dash. All heads or all tails produces a moving line. They look like ____ + and _ _ -. When you annotate them, anyway. These are those that are Yangs:

++- ___
+++ ___ +

These are Yins

--+ _ _
--- _ _ -

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:25 (fourteen years ago) link

My extra spaces didn't show up.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:25 (fourteen years ago) link

Your moving lines just change to the other kind of line in the next reading.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:26 (fourteen years ago) link

_ . . . . _ . _ . _ _ _ . _ . .

^ your first name in morse code

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:30 (fourteen years ago) link

But could you drum it out on a snare drum.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:31 (fourteen years ago) link

I actually could play it as a series of musical notes just from reading the letters - sight-reading. It's probably the most useless skill I have.

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:32 (fourteen years ago) link

Really? That sounds like an interesting skill.

I can do your I Ching reading if you want.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:33 (fourteen years ago) link

1 2-and 3-and 4
1-and and 3-and and
(rest)-and 2 3-and (rest)

^^ the rhythm if you notated it as a traditional measure of 4/4 with short = 1/8 note; long = 1/4 note

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:36 (fourteen years ago) link

xp - sure!

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:36 (fourteen years ago) link

It's a waltz of spelling.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:36 (fourteen years ago) link

Okay, you have to ask your question out loud, too, just to be sure. And be respectful to the I Ching.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:37 (fourteen years ago) link

measures - plural - duh

well - a waltz is usually in 3/4

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:37 (fourteen years ago) link

Oh, I counted wrong. I was counting 1 and and 2 and and.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:38 (fourteen years ago) link

Bum-da da, Bum-da da.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:38 (fourteen years ago) link

Wait, it still looks like that to me.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:39 (fourteen years ago) link

The first measure is straight, the second is syncopated

duh-duh (rest) duh-duh-duh (rest) duh

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:41 (fourteen years ago) link

Don't make my brain melt.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:41 (fourteen years ago) link

would it make more sense if I bolded the beats - like this?

Duh duh rest duh Duh duh rest duh

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:44 (fourteen years ago) link

Oh. That would sound weird.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:45 (fourteen years ago) link

it sounds like a free jazz rhythm

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:45 (fourteen years ago) link

So are you going to give me a question already or what?????????

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:47 (fourteen years ago) link

oh am i supposed to post it or just say it?

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:48 (fourteen years ago) link

Both.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:48 (fourteen years ago) link

Or you can email it.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:48 (fourteen years ago) link

But I'll post the result here.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:48 (fourteen years ago) link

should it be a yes or no question?

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:48 (fourteen years ago) link

Definitely doesn't have to be. But it probably won't answer very well about who. Although it might.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:52 (fourteen years ago) link

Clearly worded questions are good, though.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:52 (fourteen years ago) link

What about - should I have granola with dried strawberries and yogurt for lunch or cinnamon raisin bread?

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:53 (fourteen years ago) link

That question suuuuucks.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:54 (fourteen years ago) link

like this?
http://startupblog.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/dyson-vacuum.jpg

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:55 (fourteen years ago) link

I think it's funny the idea of repeating yourself about something. Like me mentioning what time Charlie Rose comes on twice in my life or something like that. It shows how often some subject comes up. It almost seems to define me, as if there's only a limited set of things that I'm made of, and the time Charlie Rose comes on is one of them.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:56 (fourteen years ago) link

xpost Like that! Think of a question instead of posting funny pictures of vacuums askew.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:57 (fourteen years ago) link

Do I repeat the same anecdotes too much?

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:57 (fourteen years ago) link

^^ that's my question.

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:57 (fourteen years ago) link

Uh. Okay, I'll do it, but I'm not sure you're giving the I Ching its due respect.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:58 (fourteen years ago) link

Plus, I only have so many square inches of scratch paper.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:58 (fourteen years ago) link

Okay - fine - how about "Am I boring?"

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:58 (fourteen years ago) link

totally being respectful - I sincerely don't know and want to know this.

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 18:59 (fourteen years ago) link

Okay, your two readings look like

_ _ +
_ _
_ _
___
___
_ _ +

and

___
_ _
_ _
___
___
___

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:01 (fourteen years ago) link

This is not for the Am I boring question.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:02 (fourteen years ago) link

Well, yes it is. They're similar enough that they might as well be the same.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:02 (fourteen years ago) link

what does it mean?

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:02 (fourteen years ago) link

That's 46 and 26.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:03 (fourteen years ago) link

Forty-six reads:

Potential for great advancement. A Summer sacrifice is in line with success. Obstructions are pushed aside. King Wen makes a sacrifice on Mount Ch'i. Make the climb step by step. At night, take rest.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:04 (fourteen years ago) link

That's your primary reading. Since you had two moving lines, that's your advice.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:04 (fourteen years ago) link

To avoid being boring I should sacrifice something in the summer that involves going upwards?

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:05 (fourteen years ago) link

Twenty-six reads:

The mountain peaks come through the clouds. The young charioteer urges his powerful horses and the axle breaks. The time is used to practice methods of defense. The young bull wears a headboard. The gelded boar bares his teeth. The dam breaks. Attainment!

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:05 (fourteen years ago) link

If you think 26 contradicts 46, then consider it a caution.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:06 (fourteen years ago) link

I will conquer my boringness by having an orgasm after getting in a fight after I get in a car accident?

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:07 (fourteen years ago) link

Well, there are sacrifices, but obstructions will be pushed aside, like it said.

xpost Probably not.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:07 (fourteen years ago) link

Well, I think what you're really worried about is being too boring to find a new mate.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:09 (fourteen years ago) link

So in that case, maybe 46 makes a lot of sense.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:09 (fourteen years ago) link

Okay - both indicate that I will attain/accomplish something - conceivably in summer - and there are mountains involved

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:09 (fourteen years ago) link

It's about self-improvement.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:09 (fourteen years ago) link

and transportation

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:10 (fourteen years ago) link

and boars

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:10 (fourteen years ago) link

Well, maybe. Or you can think about what summer represents. Like, seasonally, with regards to harvesting or planting. And it says to take the climb step by step. It says two things about sacrifice. It says there's potential for great advancement.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:10 (fourteen years ago) link

Because there's some walking up a mountain? It can be metaphorical movement.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:11 (fourteen years ago) link

26 is a caution. What would 26 interpreted as a caution mean?

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:11 (fourteen years ago) link

It means don't move too fast!

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:11 (fourteen years ago) link

That's for sure.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:11 (fourteen years ago) link

both of them combined - the step by step part and the thing about defenses seem to indicate that I shouldn't rush into things

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:11 (fourteen years ago) link

Be defensive. You'll break through. Yes. They actually fit rather well together.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:12 (fourteen years ago) link

And step by step you can be the person you want to be. I mean, you only care about being boring in regards to other people. If other people didn't exist, what would it matter? That's why I think the question implies a mate.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:13 (fourteen years ago) link

So, if I'm looking at this in the context of a relationship - I should be cautious, and take things slowly, and avoid getting hurt

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:13 (fourteen years ago) link

Well, yeah, that too. But your question was, Are you boring. Or do you say the same anecdotes too much. It seems that you were concerned with being interesting enough for new friends or a new mate. And so the reading addresses that more than actually being in a relationship.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:15 (fourteen years ago) link

Obviously you ARE interesting enough for your friends. I mean, you're not a boring person.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:15 (fourteen years ago) link

so I must slowly work at not being boring?

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:16 (fourteen years ago) link

You must slowly work at self-improvement.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:16 (fourteen years ago) link

Think of it that way.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:16 (fourteen years ago) link

that makes sense - thank you for saying that i'm not boring.

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:17 (fourteen years ago) link

And take it easy, because you can't hurry love and friendship.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:17 (fourteen years ago) link

i think there was a song about that.

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:18 (fourteen years ago) link

Maybe. Probably not. People haven't thought of everything, you know.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:18 (fourteen years ago) link

If love were a more popular topic for song writers, I'd say you were right.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:19 (fourteen years ago) link

everything hasn't already been done?

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:19 (fourteen years ago) link

now i'm starting to question post-modernism

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:19 (fourteen years ago) link

Well, they thought everything had been done, but then somebody invented a skateboard with just two wheels.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:21 (fourteen years ago) link

they also invented the iphone

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:21 (fourteen years ago) link

http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/7857/p0kxq8j3apaqiudkld5ulve.jpg

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:22 (fourteen years ago) link

Iphone's just a phone people tend to stick their noses in a little extra.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:23 (fourteen years ago) link

they can also send emails that tell everyone that they were sent from their iphones.

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:24 (fourteen years ago) link

That's not a feature unless you're a wedge.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:26 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah, but when you think about it - how many products are designed with a default that essentially advertises itself to everyone the product owner communicates with.

sarahel, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:28 (fourteen years ago) link

These days they would really hope all of them.

bamcquern, Sunday, 22 November 2009 19:28 (fourteen years ago) link

it would be like if vitamin water had this special chemical formula that would make the vitamin water logo appear on your throat - like a tattoo - if you drank it.
