I know I am going to offend but I can't stand XX or whatever it's called. No soul. I am never reading mainstream music press again until they stop being such dorks. You can find stuff that is 10,000 times better in indie electronica.

I travelled through a land of men,
A land of men and women too,
And heard and saw such dreadful things
As cold earth wanderers never knew.

super sexy psycho fantasy world (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 23:58 (fourteen years ago) link

For there the babe is born in joy
That was begotten in dire woe,
Just as we reap in joy the fruit
Which we in bitter tears did sow;

super sexy psycho fantasy world (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 23:58 (fourteen years ago) link

And if the babe is born a boy
He’s given to a woman old,
Who nails him down upon a rock,
Catches his shrieks in cups of gold.

super sexy psycho fantasy world (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 23:58 (fourteen years ago) link

She binds iron thorns around his head,
And pierces both his hands and feet,
And cuts his heart out of his side
To make it feel both cold & heat.

super sexy psycho fantasy world (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 23:58 (fourteen years ago) link

Her fingers number every nerve
Just as a miser counts his gold;
She lives upon his shrieks and cries—
And she grows young as he grows old,

super sexy psycho fantasy world (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 23:59 (fourteen years ago) link

Till he becomes a bleeding youth
And she becomes a virgin bright;
Then he rends up his manacles
And pins her down for his delight.

super sexy psycho fantasy world (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 23:59 (fourteen years ago) link

He plants himself in all her nerves
Just as a husbandman his mould,
And she bcomes his dwelling-place
And garden, frutiful seventyfold.

super sexy psycho fantasy world (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 23:59 (fourteen years ago) link

An aged shadow soon he fades,
Wandering round and earthly cot,
Full filled all with gems and gold
Which he by industry had got.

Jack Kirby's Orangutan Surfing Civilization (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 19 November 2009 16:48 (fourteen years ago) link

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 19 November 2009 16:49 (fourteen years ago) link

GO THICK AMOS! (jjjusten), Thursday, 19 November 2009 16:50 (fourteen years ago) link

re film : shame. i enjoyed the book and so have been waiting to see the film. guess i'll scrub that from my list then.

mark e, Thursday, 19 November 2009 16:52 (fourteen years ago) link

and avoid the metalcore band too

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 19 November 2009 16:55 (fourteen years ago) link

in my world, that goes without saying, but ta for the confirmation.
so, back to these hipster albums ..
i'm relying on this thread for future reference when they all appear in fopp @ £3 given that i have fallen off the radar in '09 (too much miles davis/david axelrod ..)

mark e, Thursday, 19 November 2009 17:03 (fourteen years ago) link

the film has its good points (as per usual with DePalma there is one long reveal-tracking shot that is fantastic). by contrast, the ending shot/sequence is some of the most laughably bad shit ever. also the acting is by and large terrible. and he takes at least one major liberty with the book that is completely against the grain of Elroy's writing (i.e., having one of the protagonists kill a woman)

Jack Kirby's Orangutan Surfing Civilization (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 19 November 2009 17:09 (fourteen years ago) link

no mention of monoliths and dimensions yet? for shame

scott seward, Thursday, 19 November 2009 18:33 (fourteen years ago) link

These Violens types any good then? I know the name entirely because they are about to support the band White Lies on tour and I can say that is not a thing that piques my interest as a rule

19349 things paedophiles like to complain about (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 19 November 2009 18:55 (fourteen years ago) link

i like it. their stuff from the EP they did and a single is on youtube. reminds me of lansing-dreiden, and that's a good thing with me. one of them was/is a part of lansing-dreiden, i think? the singer/guitar guy. i never look these kinds of things up.

~*~prediction~*~

this thread will devolve very soon into an argument about what constitutes a "hipster album" and what being a "hipster" entails

~*~prediction~*~

someone will make the hilarious joke that a very well-known album is a "hipster album" and then others will defend it

lol that nme 2009 list is really like 'oh shit we spend the decade listening to the wrong music fuck fuck fuck'

hahaha, we need someone to re-enact this and put it to film.

Someone deleting all the McFly mp3s and "speed-listening" through the Grizzly Bear and Fever Ray albums.

Cunga, Tuesday, 8 December 2009 21:50 (fourteen years ago) link

i think they would be more concerned with we spent the decade trying to sell the wrong music to our readers fuck fuck fuck.

lol @ the NME review snippet for Dirty Projectors: The only real difficulty is that they almost sound like a brilliant pop band - yeah, and then they fuck it up hardcore!!!!!
