Oh, just sometimes it can make people overly interior and paranoid. It's a total ymmv thing, but I would go for alcohol (wine, esp) to take the edge off coming down.

a friend and i were still tripping a bit, we’re back at my parents house and it's like 5am, so i hear the ice cream truck comeing down the street. We start running around the room trying to scrape together some change so we can get some ice cream. Meanwhile the truck has passed the house, we run outside to try and chase after it. I guess we were being loud because my mom wakes up and comes out of her room like "what the hell are you guys up to?" we tell her we wanted to get something from the ice cream man. She looks at us strangely and says? "you guys are nuts! why don't you grab the newspaper while you are out there? the delivery guy just passed by"

In junior year of high school, I dropped three hits in first period. Second period was math, a subject I had struggled with all my young life. Fortunately, after catching serious trails from my pencil lead as I took a Scantron quiz, I became famous mathematician Ben Franklin, and able demonstrated a problem on the board for the only time in high school. Third period was Chemistry. The teacher walked in wearing a wizard's hat made out of posterboard and waving a yardstick like a wand, effectively out-aciding me. When he called on me to demonstrate a problem, I gave the wrong answer about 10 times in a row, despite him actually telling me the answer on the last few tries

My first and only time was in high school. My parents were supposed to be gone for the night, but for some reason, they came home. As soon as I heard their car in the drive way was when everything was getting weird. So my friend and I escaped out the back door to head for the pasture(I grew up on a farm). There is a large lake on our farm, and I thought it would be a good idea to go swimming. I swam across the entire lake and lost my friend, as well as my clothes which were on the other side of the lake. As I looked around I saw our cows. They spoke to me and I understood. Everything is a blur after that point, but when I woke up I had dirt under my nails, grass in my mouth, and my feet were badly bleeding. I think I thought of myself as a cow at one point, I dunno. Not a fun night.

One evening my band mates came to my place to play. They were buzzed upon arrival and proceeded to involve me. We were soon too distracted to do anything right, so we all headed for the bathroom, turned out the light and lit sparklers in total darkness. It occurred to me that we could view them right in front of our noses using ski goggles. We each took turns watching sparklers really really close that night. Afterward we we tuned in to the world premier of The Day After.

Yeah when smoking huge amounts of weed as a teen I used to get this "fourth person" effect, like someone was outside doing something... another time me and best friend of the time suddenly realised another friend of ours was death incarnate. Turns out he wasn't. Acid just makes me laugh and kiss people.

one time just as it was kicking in my boyfriend decided it was a good day for me to meet his much older strict lawyer brother and his brother's lawyer wife so we went to their house (we were walking around their part of town) and we all drank a beer and then my boyfriend disappeared for at least an hour and while he was gone i fell deeply in love with the colour of their carpet and kept complimenting them on it and then explaining that i really meant it, i wasn't just being polite, and then we all noticed my boyfriend was back from wherever he had been, standing outside the door doubled over and laughing secretively. they never liked me. i saw the carpet again a few months later and it was a ghastly shade of sea-green.

estela, Wednesday, 18 November 2009 06:53 (fourteen years ago) link

"Fourth person" effect manifests for me more of a "hey, wasn't somebody else just here?" or a feeling that I'd suddenly forgotten about a member of the night's acid-taking gang (like the fear of having left one of the gang at the bar or in the park, but not remembering who exactly it was and just seeing a weird parade of faces, which can ping-pong around inside your head for a long time and create worry-waves). It always turns out to be nothing, just like how I freak out about losing my wallet at the start and end of each trip. Nothing to worry about, I always find my wallet eventually, it's just part of the insanity.

Acid has the worst comedown of any drug I've taken. I often think I'd quite like to do it again (it's been ten years), then I remember those long sleepless hours when everything seems covered in filth including the inside of your brain and think twice.

Every time I've had the stuff (which is recently and not often) all I've felt is this agitated eccy teethgrindy thing, not a bad thing but not at all what I'd expected, and really only mild "oh look the walls wobble hahaha" stuff. I get better trips off weed! One time I was so stoned I became two-dimensional. I completely lost my sense of depth. It was pretty fucked up.

hulk would smash (Trayce), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 10:36 (fourteen years ago) link

Low-grade acid = the sorts of trips you describe. Anxiety & mild distortions. If you take enough, it can get pretty intense, but the side-effects increase too, and the comedown is horrible (filth world, as described above). W/ good acid, you don't get the teethgrindy bit - or not much of it, anyway.

i've done four radio shows on acid. best times ever...we even edited down one show to a CD that i still have copies of. this was with sometimes ilxor elan.

i think the most epic for me was when i dropped by myself at 7 in the morning on a saturday in early may. i was tired and had to do a radio show, so i just played olivia tremor control (lols) and sat and relaxed until the show was over.

then i had to cook lunch at the co-op, and i actually made a totally amazing salad and some killer flatbread. cutting up tomatoes felt soooo good. and of course i was all listening to devendra's first album and being like, damn, the oneness.

then, (and yes, this is true), i had to cook dinner with a bunch of other people for the co-op. it was mexican-themed, and we had to buy all these groceries and alcoholic beverages, and my 19 year old self buying tequila and wine illegally and on acid in the liquor store was terrifying yet weirdly fun. and at the supermarket, i stood in line behind my then-current creative writing professor, buying coronas and cheese and obsessing over the taste of lime.

i'm amazed but not surprised by ilxors' ability to keep on truckin' while trippin'. my times usually involved dissociating myself from what was around me to avoid any feeling that i was being clocked.

some lovely times had. my last trip was a mini quarter of a blotter stored in the fridge for a while and saved for the night the tories were ousted in 97. felt kind of nice to be easy mild tripping while watching a huge change in british politics. watching portillo's face as he lost his seat. i think i grabbed a couple of hours sleep and then went into work (a very straight place) and held it together in the general euphoria.

Did a lot about ten years ago.. summaries of a few more memorable trips:

1. The first time, laid in a field w/a friend til the trees above us appeared to be reaching down toward us, a friend told us that'd be when we knew it had kicked in.. Fifteen minute bus ride to a friends house was terrifying.. When we got there, convinced friend who was wearing a skull-print shirt to take it off & hang it on the wall, we still talk about the vortex of skulls shirt.

2. Really, REALLY identifying with Hey by the Pixies. Pretty sure I sang it for at least an hour straight, elsewhere in the room a friend was obsessed with the phrase "sweet mother of pearl".

3. Out of cigarettes & underage, friend and I (both female) took all night bus from yonge & finch to queen streetcar, which only went halfway to the beaches. We walked the last half hour at 3am to get to the place we were going to meet a person at. This dude, 26ish, was going to buy us smokes, we'd never met him before but had spoken online a few times & considered him safe cuz he had started diaryland.com. He refused to buy us smokes when we finally got there so we swung for a bit at the playground near the olympic pool & went home.

My bf I took kind of dirty acid the second time I ever visited NYC. We wandered around Midtown, and then Times Square, which was difficult. We wound up just crossing wherever there was a "walk" light.

Highlights:

- Went to a live (male) strip show at the Gaiety. The guys' cut abs made them look segmented like ants. Really weird vibe there - it was a theater, not a club, and it was creepy.

- I bought a disposable camera that cost for $25. I knew this was way way too much, but I was unable to stop the transaction.

- Saw filming of the movie 15 Minutes on 8th Ave.

- Ate the best plums ever from a street vendor

- Got extremely lost in detoured pedestrian tunnels (there was construction on the regular tunnels) between two different Times Square subway stations. Loud and complicated.

This all took about 5 hours and you wanna talk about FILTHY. Ugh.

i have some ridiculous, ridiculous pictures of myself and friends on acid. the first time i dropped in college, it was halloween, and i wore this ridiculous cowboy-themed suit jackets with brown slacks. when people asked me what i was, i just said, 'i'm incognito' and laughed like a maniac.

so no one answered my question earlier. not sure if it's because no one else here has tried it or if "candyflipping" is some toronto colloquialism (it's doing acid and e). acid quickly got to the point for me where i pretty much couldn't do it without making 100% sure i was going to have a good time. last time i did it was for Orbital's last tour - when they played at the opera house. that night was pretty straight forward.

the time before that was pretty insane - it was new years and we went to the most inexcusable club in the city to see the New Deal play. so i also had all sorts of other things in my system aswell when i flipped (a friend of mine literally tossed everything into my mouth at once). this place was idiotic beyond words but the music was great. when we left we could not get a cab anywhere. it was insane - like some cold toronto version of mad max. groups of people all dressed up mobbing street corners - fights in the streets. we walked across town for close to an hour before passing the police station. some guy walking out yelled "happy new years" and we did the same and then he yells to us that his dad just sexually assaulted a minor a then went "wwwoooooooooo...... what you think you're better than me?" at this point is was mostly the lsd left in our systems and one of my guys answers loudly "yes." i thought we were going to die (we had also split up into two groups at this point for some reason). we somehow then wandered into the biggest sketch bag coffe shop in the gta. the coffee time (aka crack time) at college and spadina. at 5:30 am on new years. we sat in there smoking and picking at a donut for a while before it dawned on me that if we wandered into the university's residence area we could probably get a cab right after it drops somebody off. which i guess worked. last thing i remember was sitting an a dark room with the only other guy to do as much nonsense as i did - sipping a beer and him telling me that as long as we had the beers and the erb we'd come down off the acid ok soon enough.

Buck Utah (rockapads), Thursday, 19 November 2009 04:33 (fourteen years ago) link

okay, i told one already. but this one:

i had just been in a play adaptation of faulkner, which my friend mat was also in. we dropped right before the curtain, so by the time we were dressed and outside, we were *there*. so we met up with some people and went to this crazy party where Jug Free America were playing. i was carrying this pre-made frosted brownie thing called a Zebra brownie and wherever i went at the party, people were just digging into it with their hands and shoving it in their mouths in a truly grotesque way. luckily the zebra brownie got consumed quickly.

but then the curtains: they were red and had some sort of weird pattern on them. i looked at them and they became a medieval pastoral scene of people walking on hills towards a cathedral. then they reached their arms up and their arms became HUGE, PILLAR-LIKE things. my perspectice then got flipped, and i was sitting in the cathedral's bell-tower, which was made up of rapidly ascending bits of stone that were coming from the people's hands....YES.

then two people who weren't tripping came up to me and told me that i should hang out with them and eat some food at this coop, and so we went there, and then ended up going to a dorm room...which was filled with nine people...drinking natty ice....and my friend mich3lle had just broken her back, and so she was in bed and everyone was just sitting down being drunk and ridiculous. and then s4m puts on the video for 'Can't Get You Out of My Head,' and i had never heard the song or seen the video and i fucking FLIP OUT. just totally flip. good old kylie...

One of the highlights from my best trip ever was walking barefoot through a pedestrian tunnel and one of my friends started yelling "Bugs! Bugs!" A few of us exchanged glances like "Oh no - Dave's gone over the edge!" until we realized that the pavement was indeed covered with thousands of earwigs.

I also stepped on a bee while tripping once. I could feel the poison spreading through my blood.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Thursday, 19 November 2009 11:01 (fourteen years ago) link

I too am enjoying the Toronto slant. The Coffee Time mentioned upthread is truly sketchy, matched only by the Ossington/College one.

Shortly after 9/11, a friend had a party. We hotboxed her bathroom, and my boyfriend at the time sat on her sink and broke it. Eep. This set us off on a 45 minute laughing-til-teary spree, maintained when we went into the living room and saw a foreign-language newscaster with an impossibly high voice.

We left, I convinced him to buy cigarettes & he got filterless Camels. Ick. Then we hailed a cab to get back to my place. Unfortunately once inside I realized it was actually a giant egg being driven by Osama bin Laden.

Once we got to my place, my boyfriend, best friend & I had to sneak through the living room past my dad sleeping on the couch. I should mention that my bedroom had a few weird decorations since I was a goofy stoner - a puppet hanging from strings (marionette?) & a plastic pig taped to my ceiling fan, a bunk bed with scarves draped off all available bars, a pylon I'd stolen from a construction site, etc. Anyway when we got into the room it was quite clearly a jungle and I had to crouch to avoid vines. We all "made it" to my bunk bed and laid down, at which point it got a little bad & we'd make eye contact with each other & not say anything, and I was convinced they were talking to each other inside their heads. :P

Another time, same best friend & I went to bed around 8/9AM listening to David Bowie mp3s we were convinced were playing backwards.

We were tripping at my house, and one of my friends was craving a cup of tea. I brewed one up for him, then realised that there was no sugar or milk - so we decided a perfectly acceptable substitute would be a handful of cashew nuts and a fried egg. He drank the whole thing and declared it delicious.

In the early hours of that same night we invented another concoction - a cocktail called The Spy Who Loved Me, which consisted of cheap super-strength cider and cream soda. At the time it tasted amazing, and we drank it while listening to Nobody Does it Better on repeat for about an hour.

Ooooh I forgot about the Lansdown one. The first & only time I went to a strip club it was the one near that CT- there were 8 or so cop cars surrounding the store.

Pretty much you should stay clear of all Coffee Times, it's never a good idea. I used to hang out at the Jane & Bloor one when it still had a smoking room..
