horseshoe, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 19:50 (fourteen years ago) link

jauron was kinda like wannstedt, one of those ex-bears coaches whose subsequent hire by another team made me wonder if the team in question had ever checked in to see what was going on in the NFC.

btw it's totally not jauron's fault and firing him isn't going to improve things any, but falling on your sword is totally one of the things they pay the HC for so go with god Dick Jauron. wkiw Jauron and Edwards tho, so long as edwards doesn't try to play any of that 311.

NEW YORK DESERVED 9-11 (cankles), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 01:18 (fourteen years ago) link

Miami at Carolina – This is pretty much the same club and is kind of a throwback matchup with clubs that primarily run the ball and try to play defense (remember that)…I’m taking Miami.
Pittsburgh at Kansas City - I could see Pittsburgh maybe getting off slow and keeping KC in the game for a half, but I would be really surprised if the Steelers lost.
Washington at Dallas- Dallas is going to be gripping, but they should beat the Redskins. If the Cowboys blow this one, JR is going to lose it and start talking crazy.
Buffalo at Jacksonville- the Bills will come out firing, but Jack Del Rio seemingly has the ability to get his club out of the ditch enough to keep his job, I’ll take the Jaguars, who do seem to be a bit improved while beating up on lesser opponents.
Seattle at Minnesota- Vikings until proven wrong. Seattle’s D gave up about a half mile in offense last week to the Cards.
San Francisco at Green Bay- This will probably be a pretty decent game but I will take the Pack at home.
Cleveland at Detroit- blood in the water, the small fish get a chance to feed, winner maybe gets to keep his job. The Browns couldn’t move the ball against Ohio State at this point. Detroit doesn’t appear particularly good at anything, but they have put up some yards in a couple of games, so I will take the Lions at home.
Atlanta at New York Giants- Boy have the stock slid on these two clubs, that being said, I think the Giants still have more of a shot of pulling it together and should win this week.
Indianapolis at Baltimore- Ravens fans hate the Colts, like Colts fans hate the Pats. B-more will play up for this game and if things go right, they could be the club to knock off Indy. I’m taking Indy, but the Ravens have a shot, especially if Ed Reed returns one back for a TD.
New Orleans at Tampa Bay- Saints should win, but they seem to play to the competition a bit and keep these lower rung clubs in the game. To believe in the Saints as a Super Bowl club, I’d like to see them go out and shellac one of these clubs dropping 28 in a quarter early and then cruising.
San Diego at Denver- The NFL is a fickle bztch, one day she loves you the next you are a total loser. Denver should be used to it, they have gotten off to strong starts 2 of the last 3 years to only completely collapse into a mess. I think the glimmer of SD regaining the run game is something to note. SD is the only club that can beat the Colts and yet not win squadoush in the playoffs. There is something in that and I’m sure Pats and Steelers fans hope they are around for that one.
Cincinnati at Oakland- Bengals should handle this one, but they need to get it done without piling up any injuries.
Arizona at St. Louis- AZ seems to actually be getting it together, so I will pick them to win and watch Warner have a complete meltdown in the town where he made his name.
New York Jets at New England- I can’t see NE losing to the Jets after a week like last one.
Philadelphia at Chicago- I want to take the Bears, but they are a sucker bet at this point. Who knows on the Eagles, I thought coming into the year they could be a Super Bowl club. They have zero running game, cannot move the ball a yard to save their soul but they do have talent. Eagles should win.
Tennessee at Houston- No good reason, but I am going both birds blazing and taking the Titans in an upset.

Last week another mediocre 8-7, but I would have been better if I went with some of my hunches. Oh well that and $200 bucks will get only one of your legs broken by a guy named Vinny.

For the season: 96-48

earlnash, Wednesday, 18 November 2009 16:06 (fourteen years ago) link

Miami at Carolina – no ronnie brown means panthers imo
Pittsburgh at Kansas City - stillers
Washington at Dallas - boys
Buffalo at Jacksonville - jags
Seattle at Minnesota - vikes
San Francisco at Green Bay - pack
Cleveland at Detroit - lions
Atlanta at New York Giants - giants
Indianapolis at Baltimore - colts
New Orleans at Tampa Bay - saints
San Diego at Denver - bolts
Cincinnati at Oakland - cinci
Arizona at St. Louis - cards
New York Jets at New England - 86-0
Philadelphia at Chicago - i want to take bears in an upset but i'll feel dumb when they lose, so eagles.
Tennessee at Houston - titans roar back

10-5 last week, 96-48 overall

Although projected a late first-round selection, Dockett was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the 3rd round, because his previous arrests and run-ins with coaching staffs scared off a lot of teams.[3] His nickname, according to teammate Bryan Robinson, is "fart box".[4]

dear analysts: it's ok to say that the texans are soft and kubiak is a bad coach. you don't need to be amazed that they haven't "made the leap."

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 November 2009 05:04 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah, could you imagine the dolphins-titans game if brown hadn't gotten hurt? even so i think there's still a chance that will be the funkiest nfl game in a long time.

will.i.ban (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 24 November 2009 05:05 (fourteen years ago) link

xxxxxxp i guess it depends on how talented you think the texans are--i think they have enough good players to compete but routinely blow games. when that becomes a pattern to me it's a coaching issue.

omaha deserved 311 (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 24 November 2009 05:39 (fourteen years ago) link

well yeah exactly - they're good enough to compete, not good enough to dominate. when you're merely competetive and play a ton of close games, whether or not you pull ahead in those games is one of those things that i consider to be essentially up in the air - that's why i'd be nervous about the bengals (who appear to be pretty good, but not great) if i were a cinci fan right now, they've played NOTHING but close games and are probably a little lucky to have pulled ahead in so many of them. the texans are solid-to-unexceptional in most areas, aside from their handful of star players they have a lot of dudes who are basically just, y'know, guys. if they had better talent they'd be winning more decisively imo.
